Codes applicable to signage include: Unified Development Code (UDC, 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC)

The applicable sign district, due to location: Pedestrian Business District, 4th Av (UDC 7A.11.2)

1. UDC:
A) I acknowledge sign sizes and types (wall / canopy and projecting sign) are permitted

B) UDC 7A. 11.2. Lower projecting sign height to 20 feet above sidewalk to top of the sign, max. (The plan shows 2’10” tall sign, with 18’ vertical clearance, which extends above max. height.)

C) Projecting sign along 4th Ave side extends aerially over right of way. Development Package DP19-0125 shows the building at the lot line along 4th Ave and note that aerial TRE to be recorded via separate easement for the sign. Provide a temporary revocable easement (TRE) for that sign (sign A in the application). If a TRE is not already completed, suggest keeping this sign off the application and continuing forward with the other two at this time. (For TRE information, contact Real Estate Division at City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility, Bob.Beecher@tucsonaz.gov or Tiana.Clark@tucsonaz.gov can assist.)

2) NEC / OLC
A) I acknowledge you provide a statement that the signs are UL rated, thank you.
B) the standard electrical notes are missing from the diagrams and should be added to each sheet containing electrical and lighting data, as follows:
C) add note: signs shall have UL sticker, manufacturer sticker and installer sticker placed on the edge / or cabinet
D) add note; signs shall shut off at midnight for non-24/7 operations
E) add note: a dedicated sign circuit to be provided and clearly labeled at power panel
F) add note: a safety lock out required where disconnect is not immediately visible to sign
G) label location of disconnect switch for each sign
H) all signs – maximum of 4400k internal illumination color temperature – verify and add note

3) IBC -
A) provide attachment details for each sign – distinctly labeled for the size / typical type / number of possible attachments (ok to give a schedule of attachments, depending on wall surface type)

B) canopy and projecting sign mounting must be able to withstand 103 mph winds, verify attachment support sufficient with your teams (I see notation that an engineer is involved? Calcs, plan?)

Please feel free to email me with any questions. Thank you. (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov)
