Please provide a written response to each comment; updates without a clear response to all comments may not be reviewed. If you have any questions regarding the comments, you may contact me directly. Updates may result in additional comments.

2. GENERAL - SPECIAL INSPECTIONS: Please have the Registered Design Professional in Responsible Charge of this project complete and return the City of Tucson Special Inspections Certificate with signatures. The form can be
downloaded at: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/files/sharedassets/public/city-services/planning-developmentservices/documents/special_inspection_certificate.pdf

3. S001 - DEFERRED SUBMITTALS: The list of deferred submittals provided in the structural general notes appears to be incomplete. Per the 2018 IBC, Section 106.3.4, “The registered design professional in responsible charge shall list
[all] the deferred submittals on the construction documents for review by the code official.” Please confirm if design of the following items are being deferred or provide a complete design as part of this revision.

i. Steel shade canopies with aluminum perforated panels per A104, Keynote 5.01

ii. Detached structural steel pergola per 3/G111 and L2.2, Keynote 12

iii. Steel solar parking covers (car ports) per G101, Keynote 5.11

4. S001 - DESIGN ASSUMPTIONS: The following structural design information shall be included in the construction documents per 2018 IBC Section 1603. Please include the following items in the structural general notes.

i. Wind design data: Design wind pressures for exterior component and cladding materials expressed in psf

ii. Seismic design data: Seismic design category

5. S001 - TYPICAL WALL SHEATHING: Structural general notes provide information on typical wood structural sheathing thickness and fastening. For walls, the notes refer to the shear wall schedule for more information, however, reviewer could not locate information on the required sheathing and fastening of typical exterior non-shear walls. Please indicate where this information can be located.

6. S002 - MISSING INFORMATION: The Plan Legend on S002 indicates a hatch for an 8" CMU wall around the elevators (plan east, all floors). Please indicate where typical reinforcement has been called out on plan. Reviewer could not locate.

7. S103 - CONFLICTING INFORMATION: The Foundation and Framing Schedules on Sheet S103 provide information that conflicts with the structural calculation package at the following locations. Please revise the schedules to match the calculations or revise the calculations as needed.

i. Typical Column "C1" has been designed with a 3/4" thick base plate (Calculations, Pg 83, 85). The schedule calls out a 3/8" base plate. Please confirm.

ii. Typical Joist "J8" has been designed as a 2x14 member @ 32" oc (Calculations, Pg 38). Schedule calls out a 2x19, which is not a recognized size. Please confirm.

8. S302 - STEEL COLUMNS: Details 235 and 224 cut at the Roof Terrace shade structure call out steel columns with no size indicated on plan. Please confirm that these columns are Typical Column "C1" (HSS5x5x5/16) or provide an alternative size.

9. S402 - MISSING DETAIL: Roof Plan S402 includes a section cut for Detail 313 at the plan-north exterior. Detail 313 does not appear in the typical roof detail Sheet S701.

10. S601/S602/S701 - DESIGN CLARIFICATION: Details 211, 230 and 308 show wood header beams installed flush with the stud wall double top plate. Please confirm that no Simpson strapping is required to maintain continuity where top
plates are being interrupted.

11. S602 - DESIGN CLARIFICATION: Detail 221 shows a wood pony wall installed at the edge of the rooftop terrace that appears to act as fall protection for occupants. Please confirm that this pony wall has been designed for typical out-of plane handrail loads per the 2018 IBC Chapter 16.

12. S602 - MISSING INFORMATION: Details 232 & 233 show a wood-to-steel connection with vertical steel knife plates welded to an HSS column. Please provide the minimum thickness for this knife plate.

13. S701 - PARAPETS: Architectural Elevations on Sheet A201 show a maximum Top of Parapet of approximately 8'-0" measured from Top of Stud Wall Top Plate. Please confirm that these parapets have been accounted for in the design of the main wind force resisting system, and consider adding a maximum parapet height to Details 301 and 302 where parapets are framed with cantilevered 2x6's or built integral with the prefabricated wood trusses. Please note that kickers may be requested by the wood truss manufacturer.

14. S801 - STEEL COLUMN SIZE: Stair #1 Framing Plan and Detail 407 indicates a structural steel column supporting the stair landing. No size has been provided. Please confirm that this column is a Typical Column "C1" (HSS5x5x5/16) or provide an alternative size.

15. S802 - WOOD HANDRAIL DETAIL: Detail 426 calls for a wood handrail with a double 2x4 top plate restrained at either end by a wood stud wall. However, based on the geometry of Stairs #2 and #3 at Level 3, handrail is not continuous from wall to wall, and is interrupted by the descending stairs. Please confirm that this is acceptable, and the top rail does not require two points of restraint in order to resist hand rail loads.
