11/04/2009 VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS JVINCENT Approved 1008.1 Doors. Means of egress doors shall meet the requirements of this section. 1008.1.8 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this section egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. 1008.1.8.4 Bolt locks. Manually operated flush bolts or surface bolts are not permitted. 1008.2 Gates. Gates serving the means of egress system shall comply with the requirements of this section. Gates used as a component in a means of egress shall conform to the applicable requirements for doors. ____Remove the slidebolts on the interior foyer doors. One door can have slidebolts but the other must have a thumbturn lock. ____Remove the exterior slide bolts from the security gates on the east side of the building. The inside of the gates must have thumbturn locks or panic hardware. They cannot have keyed locks or slidebolts. These gates serve the means of egress.
11/04/2009 VIOL - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS JVINCENT Approved 904.1 General. Automatic fire-extinguishing systems, other than automatic sprinkler systems, shall be designed, installed, inspected, tested and maintained in accordance with the provisions of this section and the applicable referenced standards. 904.5 Wet-chemical systems. Wet-chemical extinguishing systems shall be installed, maintained, periodically inspected and tested in accordance with NFPA 17A and their listing. ____Repair any deficiencies listed in your hood system annual inspection report. ____ All six burners do not seem to have proper coverage. Make sure your report states you have proper coverage. ____The portable deep fat fryer is not placed under a nozzle. Last year you were also ordered to move it under a nozzle to provide proper coverage. You complied but it has since been moved again. If this continues you will be issued a citation.
11/04/2009 VIOL - MEANS OF EGRESS JVINCENT Approved 1028.6 Emergency escape openings. Required emergency escape openings shall be maintained in accordance with the code in effect at the time of construction, and the following: Required emergency escape and rescue openings shall be operational from the inside of the room without the use of keys or tools. Bars, grilles, grates or similar devices are allowed to be placed over emergency escape and rescue openings provided the minimum net clear opening size complies with the code that was in effect at the time of construction and such devices shall be releasable or removable from the inside without the use of a key, tool or force greater than that which is required for normal operation of the escape and rescue opening. ____All the windows in the bedrooms serve as an emergency escape. Each bedroom needs at least one operational window. Currently the windows are sealed, screwed or bolted shut.

Required exit accesses, exits or exit discharges shall be continuously maintained free from obstructions or impediments to full instant use in the case of fire or other emergency... 1028.3 Obstructions. A means of egress shall be free from obstructions that would prevent its use.. ____Remove all obstructions from the exit passageway/exit access on the east side of the building. This includes all the sand.

Existing sorority and fraternity house shall have automatic sprinkler systems installed by October 22, 2010 and permits by October 22, 2009. ____You have until December 3, 2009 to obtain pemits. You are also being issued a PRECITATION with this report for not obtaining permits. It is possible a CITATION will be issued if you do not comply.

Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems and equipment shall be inspected, tested and maintained or removed. ____Complete smoke detector log and provide during reinspection. Every bedroom and room used for sleeping purposes requires a smoke detector.
