12/21/2007 VIOL - FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS CFUNKE Approved 3403.6.3.1 Existing piping. Existing piping shall be tested in accordance with this section when the fire code official has reasonable cause to believe that a leak exists. Piping that could contain flammable or combustible liquids shall not be tested pneumatically. 3404.2.12.3 Existing tanks and piping. Existing underground storage tanks and piping shall be tested for leakage at the owner's or operator's expense at least every 24 months in accordance with this section. EXCEPTION: Underground storage tank systems with an approved method of detecting leaks from any component of the system. When testing is required, owners or operators shall provide the fire code official with data setting forth the method of testing that is to be used and shall submit the name of a qualified individual who will conduct the test. A testing permit shall be obtained. Pneumatic testing is prohibited. Devices used for final testing shall be capable of detecting leaks as small as 0.05 gallon per hour. Leaking piping and equipment shall not be used until repaired or replaced. The fire code official is authorized to require that the test be conducted in the code official's presence. · Due to the large amount of corrosion in the underground tank sump components it shall be required to provide a line leak test of the vent piping and a tank tightness test on all tanks to ensure the integrity of the tanks. · A tank tightness report is also required for the waste oil tank. · This shall be done by qualified personnel.
12/21/2007 VIOL - FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS CFUNKE Approved 3404.2.1 Change of tank contents. Tanks subject to change in contents shall be in accordance with Section 3404.2.7. Prior to a change in contents, the fire code official is authorized to require testing of a tank. Tanks that have previously contained Class I liquids shall not be loaded with Class II or Class III liquids until such tanks and all piping, pumps, hoses and meters connected thereto have been completely drained and flushed. · The tank being converted to diesel must be purged of all contents and flushed in accordance with the above. A written receipt must be provided before the contents of the tank are changed.

A consistent or accidental loss of liquid, or other indication of a leak from a tank system, shall be reported immediately to the fire department, the fire code official and other authorities having jurisdiction. · The sump leak detector shall be re-installed properly and all piping inspected for leaks. 12/21/2007 VIOL - MOTOR FUEL DISPENSING CFUNKE Approved 2206.7.7.1 Leak detection. Where remote pumps are used to supply fuel dispensers, each pump shall have installed on the discharge side a listed leak detection device that will detect a leak in the piping and dispensers and provide an indication. 2205.2.3 Leak detectors. Leak detection devices required by Section 2206.7.7.1 shall be checked and tested at least annually in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications to ensure proper installation and operation.
12/21/2007 VIOL - MOTOR FUEL DISPENSING CFUNKE Approved 2206.6.2.6 Spill containers. A spill container having a capacity of not less than 5 gallons (19 L) shall be provided for each fill connection. For tanks with a top fill connection, spill containers shall be noncombustible and shall be fixed to the tank and equipped with a manual drain valve that drains into the primary tank. · The spill containers on the fill ports of the tanks must be tested for leaks and proper operation of the manual drain. If these fail they shall be repaired or replaced.
