02/03/2015 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Reqs Change | 1. The 5" head of water occurs six-feet from the scupper, not five-feet. Verify that the structural calculations still indicate that the roof can safely support the added load. [Initial comment: The structural drawings indicate a 20-PSF live load was used for the roof design which is equivalent to a 4" water depth. A design head of 3" of water (measures six feet behind the scupper opening) was used to determine the width of the scuppers. The bottom of the overflow scupper is 2-inches above the low point of the roof so the water level would be 5" above the low point of the roof, 6-feet behind the scupper opening. Verify that the use of 3" head for the scupper design does not over-stress the roof structure. Reference: Section 1101.7, IPC 2012.] 2. Verify the calculations for a 20" wide scupper. Based on Figure 1108.3 in the 2012 IPC commentary, a 20" wide scupper can handle only 302 GPM. [Initial comment: Verify the calculated width of the scuppers. Using the Francis formula and based on a total area of 10,220-square feet and 0.031 GPM/square foot, a scupper at least 20.9" wide is required.] |
