09/27/2013 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. On sheet C1, the new water service to the ammonia building stops prior to connecting to the existing site water supply system. Show the missing portion of the new water service. Reference: Section 107.2.1, IBC 2012.
2. The specification for the reduced pressure principle backflow assembly located inside the building does not include the materials of construction. Verify that the specified valve will be resistant to the corrosive effects of ammonium hydroxide and ammonia. Reference: Section 303.2, IPC 2012.
3. Provide calculations showing how the water supply piping has been sized. Reference: Sections 604.1 and 604.3, IPC 2012.
4. PVC is not approved for use in a water distribution system within a building. Reference: Section 605.4, IPC 2012.
5. Relocate the service water shut off valve to be accessible at all times. Reference: Section 606.3, IPC 2012.
6. The specified freeze-proof safety shower/eyewash combination uses a below-grade stop-and-waste valve. This is prohibited unless an approved upstream backflow prevention device is use to protect the upstream potable water source and the downstream outlets are identified with signs that read, "Caution, Nonpotable water, Do Not Drink." Obviously, this is a problem for an emergency eyewash and shower. Reference: Section 608.7, IPC 2012.
7. Verify that the relief port for the specified backflow preventer is directed to either an approved indirect waste receptor or to the outside, where water leakage will not cause damage. Reference: Section 608.14, IPC 2012.
8. Show that the inlet level of the secondary (overflow) drain complies with Section 1101.7, IPC 2012. Reference: Section 1108, IPC 2012 and Section 1611.1, IBC 2012.
