11/01/2004 Robert Sherry PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. The overflow weirs for the downspout collector boxes are too narrow to accommodate the required overflow roof drainage. Clarify which roof plan (mechanical roof plan on M-1 or architectural roof plan, A6.0) is to be used. Revise as required.
2. Complete the design for the gas piping: specify the piping materials to be used, provide a gas load calculation for THIS project, clarify what the intended gas load is to be for the roof-mounted equipment (144 CFH or 200 CFH), and size the piping based on Table 12-3, UPC 1994. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994.
3. Complete the design for the compressed air piping: specify the piping material to be used and the air compressor being installed. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994.
4. The site drawing (C2.0) refers to detail 2/C4.0 for the installation of the reduced pressure backflow preventer assembly, clarify the intent for the water supply to the building. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994.
5. Based on the provided water calculations, some of the water piping is undersized. Revise the sizes as required or provide calculations to show that the pipe sizes are adequate for the application. Reference Appendix A, UPC 1994.
6. Include all fixtures (including the 5 hose bibbs) and the water requirements of the evaporative coolers when calculating the total demand and determining pipe sizes. Reference Section 610.1, UPC 1994.
7. Provide listing information for the water heater; the specified water heater is furnished with a 120V, 2000W heating element, not 208V. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994.
8. Clarify how the "bleed line" is to be connected to the evaporative coolers. Reference Section 313.6, UPC 1994.
9. Show how the condensate from the air compressor is to be handled. If the condensate from the air compressor contains more than 10 parts per million of oil, it cannot be drained to the planter or to sanitary waste without treatment. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994.
10. Provide the minimum plumbing facilities required by Table 2902.1, IBC 2000, for business occupancy (e.g. a drinking fountain).
11/01/2004 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Comment not addressed. Provide calculations to show that the common ventilation systems (FC-1 and FC-2) are sized in accordance with Section 403.3.2, IMC 2000.
2. Provide listing information for the infrared heaters. The installation information provided does not show that the installation shown in detail 4/M3.0 conforms to the manufacturer's recommendations. Coordinate the installation with the architectural drawings (e.g. A2.0). Reference Section 106.3.1, IMC 2000.

IF YOU CARE TO DISCUSS.

1. "Provide description/specifications for ceiling fan." This comment was made on the first submittal. Circuit B-2, with (13) Fixture D, (3) Fixture C, and the Ceiling Fan, appears to be loaded to 1446 VA, not 702.
2. "For IRH-2 and IRH-2, there is a need for not just ignition, but also exhaust power per Bob Sherry, Mechanical Plans Examiner. Please coordinate with Mechanical plans and clarify." This comment was made on the first submittal. We would question the use of receptacles for ignition and fan. Power does not appear to include control. Please refer to Mechanical Comment #2, which calls for listing information for the infrared heaters.
3. The exhaust fan on Circuit B-6 is ¾ HP according to the schedule on Sheet M2.0. Full load current would be 13.8A per NEC Table 430-148. Please justify fusing at 8A and load allocation of 570 VA.
4. "Since the repair area has been designated as Class I Division 2, the plans would need to be sealed by a Registered Electrical Engineer. The Electrical Plans Examiner, on subsequent submittal, would verify compliance with all requisite NEC and NFPA requirements. However, the National Electrical Code provides an exception to 511.3 (B) (1) which permits an area to be considered as unclassified if the enforcing agency determines that there is mechanical ventilation providing a minimum of one cubic foot per minute for each square foot of such area. Such ventilation shall provide for air exchange within 12" of the floor. The requirements of the Mechanical Plans Examiner, Bob Sherry, refer to the 2000 IMC, 403.3, which call for 1 ½ CFM/FT2. This exceeds the requirement in the Exception cited above. Applicant may, at his discretion, consider this area to be unclassified per the above if such reference is removed from the electrical plans, and if the dimension on the Mechanical Floor Plan Sheet M1.0 is modified from "DN TO 12" AFF" to read "WITHIN 12" AFF."" This comment was made on the first submittal. This comment was made on the first submittal. Upon consideration of the present design it does not appear that the present design would provide for the required air exchange over the entire floor area. The Architect has the option of demonstrating a design which does to the satisfaction of the Mechanical Plans Examiner, or of classifying this area. Willing to meet/discuss.
5. Cut sheet for Lighting Fixture H, indicates that this fixture is incandescent. Exterior lighting fixtures shall have a source efficiency of at least 45 lumens per watt according to Section 805.5 of the 2000 IECC. Incandescent bulbs only have 15-25 lumens per watt.
6. Provide information to demonstrate that Fixture H is listed for its location. The cut sheet submitted appears to address that, but the copy process cut off some lettering.
7. Please clarify power requirements of Fixture H.

1. To receive a permit accessibility (stairs) and occupancy use for second floor must be clarified. Fire code will require second floor to exit directly to the outside or through the business space depending on how the space is intended to be used. Also depending on use the floor may need to be rated.
2. Recalculate square footage on code analysis with second floor included. Sq. footage shown on G1.0 and shown on code analysis sht. T-1.0 do not match up.
