If the rim elevation of the manhole upstream from the new sewer connection is less than 12" below the first floor elevation of the building, a backwater valve (not a backflow prevention device) will be required. If the first floor elevation is 12" or more above the rim elevation of the manhole, no backwater valve is to be installed. Reference: Section 715.1, IPC 2012, as amended by the City of Tucson.
