For: Extra Space Storage
AT: 4032 E Fort Lowell Rd
Permit: TS-PRM-0623-00387
Date: 07/11/23
Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov

Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018

Note: no conditions of rezoning were found for the proposed signage, but the business operates only 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., so the shut off time for signage at midnight curfew is correct.

1. UDC: I acknowledge the sign area and signs proposed are within allowances, thank you.
A) check your setback on your plan for the sign location, as the SVT stem is already 20’ back – your 20’ setback notation is further back on the plan, appears from property line – check your scale, please.
B) add note that sign shall be 2’ minimum from face of driveway curb
C) add note that sign shall be 5’ minimum from any fire hydrant (Tucson Fire Code)
D) for the wall sign – provide property management permission to use a raceway mount

2. NEC:
A) why are the amps consistently 4.4 on both signs…? Check the manufacturer spec, please.
B) add note “power to monument by others”
C) ID location of the shut off switch for the monument sign

3. OLC: No comments, thank you

4. IBC:
A) show the standard saddle / bolts, number and size of the bolts for the sign – and whether two saddles for torsion control at top and bottom of sign cabinet
B) call out that the support pipe is high strength steel
C) identify what the “platform” is – concrete? Dimension
D) identify how the monument sign pole cover is mounted to the sign cabinet and support
E) identify how the lettering for the wall sign is mounted to the raceway and account for wind speed of 105 mph
F) note any required field welds for this sign will require special inspections
G) provide top down or side view of the sign with dimensioned thickness
H) note on the wall sign plans is odd, is this inferring that you need some support arms for the sign under the raceway to the raceway edge? If so, show and please note the mounting methods for this
I) While I acknowledge that this wall sign does not require engineering, you may want to consider it due to raceway mount at this height on the building and size of sign
