06/23/2023 Signs REQUIRES RESUBMIT RE: wall and freestanding sign review
For: Bank of America
AT: 1601 W Valencia Road
Permit: TS-PRM-0623-00356
Date: 6/23/23
Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov

Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018

1. UDC:
A) Bank of America is a lot within a much larger center, and is not a stand alone site. As such, please show the overall center on an aerial and call out the existing freestanding signs (this center may have up to 7 along Valencia)
B) the proposed sign area for the freestanding sign is at a pole sized sign level, either identify all other signs in the center as not being at this size (only 1 pole sized sign is allowed), or reduce the sign area to 60 square feet for a ‘low-profile’ design and add a 2’ tall base or skirting / cladding running the full length of the cabinet (new engineering would be required)
C) if you do proceed with a pole sized sign, as there may not be other freestanding signs on Valencia at this size (12’ height, 30’ setback and over 50 sq.,ft in area) – the sign would have to be 30’ setback from both street curbs and also be on the Valencia side of the site
D) Not concerned about the sign area for the wall signs, thank you, given the size of the area that Bank of America takes up. However, the permit record should show the street frontage for the location – use the land for this dimension on each street.
E) provide side view of entire freestanding sign – including the base / support
F) bisect the street corner on the plan and confirm that the freestanding sign would be only on the Valencia side (take curbs to theoretical point and cut line in half into the site to show sign on Valencia side)
G) add SVT from west side of Midvale – take it 20 feet deep from the furthest street curb and bring it into the site, then make it 345’ long (you can do to scale, not having to show entire length)
2. NEC:
A) specify that power for the freestanding sign is to utilize from existing
B) specify that the electrical panel will be shown to the inspector to confirm UL stickers at the time of inspection coordinated with the bank staff at the site
3. OLC:
A) for all signs, note curfew is midnight via timer
B) note that the timer will be shown to the inspector at arranged inspection to coordinate with the bank staff on site
4. IBC:
A) for wall signs, not length of the anchors for mounting
B) for all wall signs, not the typical number of anchors for mounting
C) for all wall signs, add general note how power pack inside walls shall be mounted
D) for the planned freestanding sign, please review the comment 1.B. and note that new engineering may be required, depending on re-design aspects
E) for the freestanding sign, please provide clarification if a top saddle / bolt system is missing from the diagram ?
F) for the freestanding sign, the 3” returns on the cabinet insinuate that perhaps these are not push through letters but affixed / mounted to the cabinet. Clarify and add notes.

Depending on revisions resubmitted, further review comments may be forthcoming.
