For: Super Star Car Wash

Sign permit: TS-PRM-0424-00183

Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC, 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC)

1. UDC:
A) provide all dimensions in decimal feet, box the sign area cumulatively for the logo and the wording on the wall signs

B) add notes that: “all detached signs to be 5 feet from fire hydrants, 2’ from driveway curbs, 18” from adjacent parking spaces, and outside of any easements”

C) sign area on the wall sign package needs to be fully dimensioned (i.e. star logo, with cabinet under) so that cumulative sign area is accurately depicted (it will be within code, it’s having a clear understanding of the size that is relevant)

FREESTANDING SIGN COMMENTS:

D) check and revise freestanding sign area as full extent of each cabinet (not visual opening on digital sign piece, go to full extent)

E) maximum sign area for the freestanding sign, as a monument sign, is 50 square feet. Revise as necessary or identify this as a pole sign.

F) Obtain written permission from the Valencia Crossings Planned Area Development (PAD-21) Design Review Committee to authorize BOTH the ability for this location to have their own freestanding sign that counts towards the number of allowed freestanding signs for the development along Valencia Road, AND for this lot to take and use the 1 allowed pole sized sign along the Valencia Road frontage for the PAD-21 development.

G) Freestanding sign height:
1) Provide difference in grade from top of Valencia Road street curb to the average grade around the freestanding sign. (The average grade is measured a distance of 5 feet away from the sign, North, South, East and West. Mark those points, and determine the average of those 4.)
2) Then take that average grade measurement and show height taken to top of the sign cabinet.

3) UDC 7A.6.5 – further height comments may be forthcoming, depending on grade elements here with possible slope).

H) I acknowledge the freestanding sign setback is sufficient (30’) from Valencia Road curb for a pole sized sign and is shown out of easement and sight visibility triangles.

2) NEC / OLC / FCC -
A) add note to each sheet: all signs shall be UL, MET listing or equivalent, and shall have the UL sticker, manufacturer sticker and installer stickers affixed to each sign

B) add note: lockouts to be provided where shut off switch is not immediately visible to the sign

C) add note: dedicated sign circuit(s) shall be provided and labeled at the power panel

D) add note: all signs shall not exceed 4400k color temperature

E) add note: all signs shall be shut off via timer at midnight curfew

F) add note: timer shall be provided near the power panel

G) No information was provided on the digital aspect for the proposed freestanding sign. Per the outdoor Lighting Code, (OLC, 501.3) Maximum color temperature for an internally illuminated sign in the City of Tucson is 4400k. Provide the standard Watchfire digital sign manufacturer data sheet for the unit that to be used here, and ensure it is max 4400k and is fully capable to dim down to 200 Nits from sunset to the 12 a.m. curfew and explain how dimmed.

H) the drive-up signs are also digital displays, different manufacturer – provide spec sheet for them as well for dimming to 200 Nits, max 4400k color temp full operations mode.

I) List all standard electrical data for the drive-up kiosk signs (i.e. volts, amps, circuit, shut off switch location)

J) add note on plan set that “power to the freestanding and drive thru signage is to be run by others via separate building permit” (may be included with the building permit plan review underway for the circuit)

K) for all digital remote operated signs: provide manufacturer statement of FCC compliance (small cellular wireless cannot be interrupted by digital remote operations)

3) IBC:
A) provide engineering and detailed mounting specs for freestanding and drive thru kiosk signs (ensure the engineered plans are accompanied or supplemented with saddles / bolts, and any applicable special inspections)

B) clarify attachments for the 4 x 6 panels on the clearance bar – they should be substantial anchors for wind.
