01/12/2023 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: canopy sign review For: Love Burger / 345 N 5th - in IID, downtown, I-1 permit application: TS-PRM-0123-00106 Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 1/12/23 Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC) 7A Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson- Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), and International Building Code (IBC) 2018. 1. Thank you for this set of plans and the details for the roof behind the canopy sign. This is very helpful and all plans shown here need to be resubmitted with the licensed sign contractor's permit application, sign construction plans. And, please include the decision notice and plans for the IID case. IID-20-04 / HPZ-21-037 Activity Numbers: T20SA00241, DP20-0125, T18CM05456 2. Per state laws, the licensed C-38 or CR-38 (sign contractor) must obtain the permit and conduct the work therefore, I need your collaboration with them to process permitting for the signage sought. I conducted a precursory review of the proposal for you, given the details on the drawing set. 3. The sign area that is shown is within code. Depending on mounting details, the sign may need a special inspection for attachments due to letter size. The sign contractor will get into the details of providing these specs along with your planning. 4. The canopy sign must be positioned so that the roof is fully visible behind the sign - i.e. the sign cannot be off-centered so that there is no building wall / roof behind it. (amend the north elevation of your older version of the sign, that's adjacent to your wall and roofing height diagram) 5. A canopy sign is allowed in this zone. I do concur with the architectural rendering provided that the canopy sign, when placed in the middle of the canopy, will have a wall and roof system behind it so that it is not mistaken as a roof sign. 6. Please note that "open faced neon" is an issue for the Outdoor Lighting Code. A) The sign contractor will have a diagram showing neon enclosed within the 5" pan channel lettering - with a clear cover, or a translucent cover, over the letter "face". This is allowed per Chief Building Official's neon interpretation stemming from circa 2014. B) Sign contractor will select the neon tubing and color method - either tubing and gas combined or coated tubing - so the color temperature of the neon is not greater than 4400k inside the sign pan enclosure. The sign will have to turn off by midnight. 7. In the IID review, a second canopy sign was shown on south elevation. If this is still planned, take the sign area off of 5th Ave for that sign and add to package. Please have the sign contractor upload the details under this permit TS-PRM-0123-00106 and become the applicant. I can change your part to the consulting architect. Please email me upon resubmittal so I can look at this proposal faster. If you have any questions, please email me at Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov |
