| 11/26/2024 | External Reviewers - SAFEBuilt | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | Structural(S) Reviewer Madeline Nelson mnelson@safebuilt.com Denied Reason: Date Completed : 11/26/2024 3:55:47 PM 1. GENERAL - UPDATES: For project updates, please submit sheets with all changes clearly marked in revision clouds. Please provide a written response to each comment; updates without a clear response to all comments may not be reviewed. If you have any questions regarding the comments, you may contact me directly. Updates may result in additional comments. 2. S2.0 - NEW OPENINGS IN EXISTING CONCRETE WALL: The Structural Composite Plan, S2.0, indicates five locations where new openings shall be installed in the existing exterior concrete walls. The structural calculations indicate that new openings shall be a maximum of 8'-0" wide and assume that the existing concrete walls are at least 6" thick, with reinforcement equivalent to #4 horizontal bars @ 12" oc and two #3 vertical bars at 11" oc. Please provide a note on the structural drawings to indicate how these existing conditions shall be confirmed prior to installing new openings and amend the Structural Details 101, 102, 103 or 104 to indicate that openings shall not exceed 8'-0" in width. 3. S2.0 - RAMP SLAB: Per the Structural Composite Plan S2.0, Plan Note 10, the new concrete ramp slab shall be designed by the civil engineer, and therefore is not structural. However, the structural calculations for retaining walls DRW1 thru DRW4 indicate that the walls shall be reinforced against sliding by the adjacent concrete slab. If the slab is being relied upon for the stability of the ramp retaining walls, the structural engineer must provide a minimum concrete thickness and reinforcement. Please provide this information or resubmit the calculations to show the walls are capable of retaining soil without contributions from the slab. 4. STRUCTURAL CALCULATIONS - RETAINING WALLS: The structural general notes indicate that there has been no site-specific geotechnical study conducted for this project. Therefore, the foundation modifications have been designed using the Presumptive Soil Load Bearing values provided in the 2018 IBC Table 1806.2 (1,500 psf for soil types CL, ML, MH or CH). Similarly, for design of retaining walls, in the absence of a geotechnical study, the engineer is required to use the lateral soil loads provide in IBC Table 1610.1. Refer to IBC 1807.1.1 for more information. For soil types CL or ML, the minimum active soil pressure shall be 45 psf or 60 psf, and the maximum passive pressure shall be 100 psf. Please revise the provided structural calculations to confirm the retaining wall designs are sufficient under these revised forces.
