(2018 IBC section 1015.4) Details #6, #7, and #9 still show guard openings of 4” which would allow a 4” sphere to pass through the opening. 1015.4 exception 1 requires less than 4” openings up to 36” above the floor and less than 4 -3/8” openings from 36” to 42” above the finished floor. A 6” sphere shall not be able to pass through the triangle openings created by the tread, riser, and bottom rail. The landing guard details at the top of the stairwell were still not included.
