03/20/2024 | Commercial Electrical | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | Per phone conversation with TEP representative Chuck Leon and Dan Santa Cruz (COT Electrical Plans Examiner) this morning concerning the request to install the new service drop ‘Overhead’ at 3602 N Oracle, 3-20-2024, at approximately 8:26 am. Chuck stated that TEP originally approved the service upgrade with an underground secondary as per the Engineered designed plans. Chuck did not concur that TEP requested to install the service drop ‘Overhead’, but instead stated that TEP was ok with either an ‘Overhead’ or ‘Underground’ secondary fed service. The responses to the plan review comments, and letter from NRG Industrial Electrical Services stating that Chuck Leon and or TEP requested to install an ‘Overhead’ service drop, and also recommended to proceed with an ‘Overhead’ drop is incorrect. Please proceed as an underground fed service per the 2018 IBC adopted Amendments section 112.1.1 Section 112.1.1 Service conductors. All service conductors, power and communication, shall be installed underground for all new construction. The requirement for underground conductors may be waived by the Building Official where: 1. Existing buildings on the block are served with overhead conductors or where a lot to be constructed upon is one of three or fewer abutting vacant lots making up less than 40 percent of the total acreage of the block (not including street or right-of-way) or where a vacant area is less than 60,000 square feet. 2. The installation, when compared to the use of overhead conductors, would create a hazard or not be feasible. A feasibility study will be required at the time the request for waiver is made. |
