222 PM - Found a brand new, finished and occupied duplex built on property with no permits. Roof of duplex has a flat roof structure with slant downward from west to east. Eaves don't appear to be constructed in an approved manner. Did ask tenant on site if I could view interior, he did allow me to see the front unit. Didn't observe any imminent hazards, however tenant states the wall in the living area that has the shower on the other side has only one stud installed, for a length of 59 inches. Rear structure was been remodeled. Evaporative cooler has been swapped for AC. There is a carport structure up against the west property line that has electrical installed - floodlight. There is a live electric drop that runs above this, does not appear to provide an 8 foot clearance. Called and spoke to owner, he states he did not apply for a permit and did build the structure. Advised would be issuing a citation for this and condemning the structure as we cannot verify if there are life safety hazards present and the structure does not have a certificate of occupancy to be used as a dwelling. -VM |
