217 pm - Arrived on site and found single family home with a large commercial style sign on south facing wall of home for Kito Sushi and a banner sign on block wall with business hours listed. Side gate is open and walked into a seating area with tables and chairs, multiple "OPEN" signs and an outdoor enclosure with space for vendors. Entered door of structure and found the former garage has been converted into a commercial restaurant with seating, multiple mini-split air conditioning systems, and a counter. There is a door that leads to what would appear to the be a former porch at the southwest corner of the structure which has been enclosed. I could find no fire sprinkler systems installed in the space, and no health department license or Certificate of Occupancy posted. Spoke with owner, he said he has a health department license but he could not find it the entire duration while I was on site, and states the health department has not inspected his kitchen. Explained to him that since the garage has been remodeled without permits, to include electrical and mechanical work; that none of that work was inspected; no fire sprinkler system is installed; the space has not been reviewed for egress or approved for public use as a restaurant space, that the restaurant space would be red tagged as Unsafe to Occupy and he could not operate a restaurant here. A notice was provided requiring the remodel be permitted and inspected, or reverted back to a single family home with permits. Any future instances of operating without the proper permits will result in an immediate citation. -VM |
