WALKED THE PERIMETER FENCE AND FOUND WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SINGLE BUILDING, HAD TWO DIFFERENT ADDRESSES, 343 & 345 AND ADDRESSED TO 9TH ST. (ADDRESS WAS GIVEN AS NORTH 4TH AV.) MALONEY'S WAS ADDRESSED TO 213 N 4TH AV. MET WITH FIRE INVESTIGATOR WAYNE CUMMINGS WHO STATED THE STRUCTURE WAS VACANT AND IT DID APPEAR THAT SOME ONE WAS STAYING IN THE WEST PORTION OF THE STRUCTURE IN THE ONLY ROOM IN THE STRUCTURE. THE FIRE PROBABLY STARTED IN THAT ROOM. WAYNE STATED THE FLOOR ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE STRUCTURE WAS A WOOD FLOOR WITH A 3 FT CRAWL SPACE. MOST OF THE WOOD FLOOR WAS FIRE DAMAGED AS WELL AS PORTIONS OF THE FLOOR JOISTS. tHE BUILDING ITSELF WAS A DBL BRICK STRUCTURE, I DID FIND THE MAJORITY OF THE FLOORING DAMAGED AND PORTION OF THE FLOOR JOISTS AROUND THE SCUTTLE HOLE INTO THE CRAWL SPACE ALSO FIRE DAMAGED. ALTHOUGH THE ROOF WAS SOMEWHAT INTACT THE TRUSSES DID RECEIVE HEAVY FIRE DAMAGE AND SEVERAL TRUSSES COMPLETELY BURNED THRU ESPECIALLY THE 2 X 8 BOTTOM CORDS AND TOP CORDS. TRUSSES APPEARED TO BE CONVENTIONAL FRAME, THE ROOF SHEATHING WAS A 1X4 TONGUE AND GROOVE THAT ALSO RECEIVED HEAVY FIRE DAMAGE, WINDOWS AND FRONT DOOR ALSO FIRE DAMAGED. THE PARTING WALL BETWEEN THE TWO STRUCTURES APPEARED TO BE ORIGINAL, DBL BRICK WALL, AND ARCHED OPENINGS WERE FILLED IN WITH ADOBE. THE EAST PORTION OF THE STRUCTURE WAS BLOCK / STUCCO WITH A CONCRETE FLOOR, CONVENTIONAL FRAME TRUSSES AND METAL ROOF. TRUSSES ON THE EAST ROOF SYSTEM WERE ALSO BURNED. BOTH SIDE OF THE STRUCTURE HAD BEEN CLEANED OUT. THERE WAS NOTHING INSIDE. ELECTRICAL HAD BEEN CUT AND REMOVED, FIXTURES WERE MINIMAL BUT TURNED OFF, NO WATER OR HVAC. BOTH SIDES WERE BASICALLY A SHELL, EVERYTHING REMOVED. CALLED AND SPOKE WITH RALPH LIM WHO SERVED AS A MAINTANENCE PERSON FOR THE OWNER. RALPH MENTIONED THAT OWNER DENNIS TOM NOW LIVES IN CALIFORNIA. |

FENCE AROUND THE PROPERTY ALSO IN PLACE, FENCE WAS NOT PUT UP BY THE CITY, BUT WAS FENCED PRIOR TO THE FIRE. SPOKE WITH MAINTANENCE PERSON RALPH LIM WHO STATED RESTARAUNT OWNER WHO WAS LEASING THE BUILDING WITH PLANS TO ESTABLISH A RESTARAUNT HAVE BACKED OUT OF THE LEASE. OWNERS HAVE NO PLANS TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE BUILDING AT THIS TIME. LEASORS WERE IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING PLANS DRAWN UP BY AN ARCHITECT BUT DUE TO THE FIRE BACKED OUT. BUILDNG NOW REMAINS VACANT AND SECURED. |
