Last night we responded to 6651 E. Carondelet, Villa Campana Nursing Facility. The main entrance was very difficult to open from the outside. We had to try the code pad, then our Knox box key to obtain another key to get the door open. The front entrance is not staffed at night. The big issue, however, is when we tried to exit. The doors were again locked, no knox box inside and the key pad code was not working (this was the code the staff told us to use). Further, a sign on the door stated that if the handle was held down for 15 sec. an alarm would sound and the doors would open if locked. This did not work either. We could not get out the main exit. The staff eventually came and tried to open it also but could not prior to us transporting the patient (through a side door). I informed the staff that the on-call maintenance person needed to be contacted immediately stating it was a fire hazard for the main exit to not be functioning. They were calling that person when we left.
