Tucson, AZ. 85710 RE: Fire Inspection Dear Mrs Garrison The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a fire safety inspections at the above stated business on November 19, 2009. At that time a notice was issued indicating the corrections required to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Subsequent re-inspections were also conducted on December 3, 2009, December 10, 2009 and December 17, 2009. We were unable to gain voluntary compliance. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code with Modifications 1008.1.9 Panic and fire exit hardware. Where panic and fire exit hardware is installed, it shall comply with the following: … Each door in a means of egress from a Group A or E occupancy having an occupant load of 50 or more…shall not be provided with a latch or lock unless it is panic hardware or fire exit hardware. Currently your rear exit (South) has both the required panic hardware AND a thumb-latch deadbolt installed which can not be used in conjunction with panic hardware. This is a distinct life safety hazard. Required Action: Remove the thumb-latch deadbolt from the South exit door. This letter is to inform you that if the above stated necessary corrections have not been completed by January 4, 2009 a citation will be issued which will require an appearance by you in court with a probable fine. This letter is written as a courtesy to you in order to avoid future litigation. Sincerely, Jimmy Davis, Jr. Fire Inspector Tucson Fire Department
