12/18/2007 VIOL - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS JBEZEL Approved The Tucson Fire Department has conducted a hood suppression system inspection at the above stated business . Below is a list of violations that shall be corrected to provide compliance with the applicable codes, regulations and ordinances. Compliance is required by the 2006 International Fire Code (with modifications). ___1. PROBLEM: Manual activation pull stations are too close to cooking appliance and are blocked from access. TFC REFERENCE: 904.11.1 Manual system operation. A manual actuation device shall be located at or near a means of egress from the cooking area a minimum of 10 feet (3048 mm) and a maximumof 20 feet (6096 mm) from the kitchen exhaust system. The manual actuation device shall be installed not more than 48 inches (1200 mm) nor less than 42 inches (1067 mm) above the floor and shall clearly identify the hazard protected. The manual actuation shall require a maximum force of 40 pounds (178 N) and a maximum movement of 14 inches (356 mm) to actuate the fire suppression system. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have qualified individual install manual activation device as per code. Manual activation device must not be blocked from access. ___2. PROBLEM: Red caps missing from nozzle tips. These caps are necessary to keep nozzle tips from becoming obstructed or clogged with grease build up. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6 Inspection, testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where defective. AND: NFPA 17A, 4.3.1.5: All discharge nozzles shall be provided with caps or other suitable devices to prevent the entrance of grease vapors, moisture or other foreign materials into the piping. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Nozzle tips shall be free of obstructions and capped. ___3. PROBLEM: Service records not available on the premises for inspection. TFC REFERENCE: 901.6.2 Records. Records of all system inspections, tests and maintenance required by the referenced standards shall be maintained on the premises for a minimum of three years and shall be copied to the fire code official upon request. REQUIRED CORRECTION: Have copies of service and maintenance records available on the premises for the fire code official to inspect.
