T21CM06111 Withdrwn 07/27/2021 N/A COMBO I am converting a 120V 20A branch circuit (currently feeding the furnace in the air handler closet) to a 240V 15A branch circuit (to feed a new air handler in the same closet) per the attached wiring diagram. Complicating the project is the fact that the electrical panel was wired (in 1995) with multi-wire branch circuits. So breakers #17 (furnace - red wire) and #19 (washer - black wire) use the same 12/3 romex cable and share its neutral white wire. In order to convert #17 (and #19) slots to 240V, I will need to move the #19 breaker to the #27 slot and run a separate 12/2 romex cable from #27 to the "washer" wiring located in a junction box (in the sealed crawl space above the laundry room). This will free up the black and white wires currently used by #19. The #17 1-pole 20A circuit breaker will then be replaced with a 2-pole 15A HACR circuit breaker (per the new air handler spec) in slots #17 and #19. Breaker #17's white wire will be moved from the neutral bus to the #19 breaker, and re-id'd with black marker. The now-unused black wire will be capped with a wire nut. Finally, the 120V 15A fused outlet currently in the air handler closet will be replaced with a 240V 30A non-fuse disconnect switch.
