07/19/2021 DAN SANTA CRUZ ELECTRICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change Please address the following electrical plan review comments. Also provide a written response.

Per the previous electrical plan review it was requested to provide detailed information as to how the 20 amp lighting branch circuit is to be tapped into the 480 volt 4000 amp service switchgear supply side and comply with the 2017 NEC. After further considerations and correspondence with Frank Anzaldua via email. The electrical plan reviewer has determined that the prescribed method shown on the revised plan does not meet Code for the following reasons. (a) Per Definitions in the NEC , the conductors to be utilized for the lighting branch circuit tapped in the supply side ahead of a Service Main Disconnect renders these conductors as Service Conductors. These conductors would not be considered ‘feeder taps’ ( see Definitions, NEC).. Therefore, considering this information and the design per the plan, the type of connection shown does not show a Code approved wiring method. See also NEC art 240.2 Definitions for ‘Tap Conductor(s)’, “A conductor other than a service conductor” etc. The proposed lighting branch circuit conductor(s) would not be considered “Tap Conductor(s)”, but considered “Service Conductor(s)” by Definition. (b) Please revise the wiring methods for providing a ‘Code Approved’ lighting branch circuit.

Be advised, the option to file a Formal Appeal to the Chief Building Official for a Code Variance is available if desired.
