11/12/2020 | ZELIN CANCHOLA | DOT TRAFFIC | REVIEW | Reqs Change | 1- Sheet 7, Striping Note 6: we would like 90 mil (0.090") thick extruded or ribbon thermoplastic instead of 60 mil (0.060"). Note should read something like: THE FINAL LONGITUDINAL STRIPING SHALL BE 90 MIL (0.090') THICK THERMOPLASTIC REFLECTORIZED STRIPING PLACED OVER THE TEMPORARY STRIPING WITHIN ยท14 TO 30 CALENDAR DAYS. AFTER COMPLETION OF THE FINAL PAVEMENT SURFACE, OR AS DIRECTED BY THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER. ALL OTHER MARKINGS SHALL BE APPLIED AT THE SAME TIME. TEMPORARY STRIPING SHALL BE PAINT. 2- Sheet 7, Striping Note 7: please remove reference to hot-sprayed. Note should read something like: ALL FINAL TRANSVERSE MARKINGS SHALL BE 90 MIL THERMOPLASTIC STRIPING (0.090"). ALL PAVEMENT ARROWS AND LEGENDS SHALL BE 90 MIL THERMOPLASTIC PAVEMENT MARKING (0.090"). EXTRUDED THERMOPLASTIC OR PREFORMED APLICATIONS MAY BE USED IF APPROVED BY THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER. 3- Sheet 7, 7th St: typically new parallel parking spaces in this area of town have the WS4 stripe also on the driver's side of the parking space, to "box in" the parking space. I recommend this stripe be included for the parking spaces here, too. 4- Sheet 8, near Sta 22+33: same comment about the parking spaces 5- Sheet 8 & 9, Roundabout: if possible, I recommend that the roundabout splitter islands be constructed of raised curb instead of simply striping on the roadway in order that good deflection is provided and the roundabout operates as safely as possible. 6- Sheet 10, Corbett Ln: Since Corbett Ln is to be one-way NB travel, I believe the WS6 edge stripe and WS6 gore lines should be striped Yellow instead, as the stripes are on the left side of the motorists (YS6 good for the edge stripe, may want to go larger, more like 8" for the gore hatches) 7- Sheet 10, Corbett Sta 40+18 and 40+35: Do Not Enter signs should be larger than 12"x12" - more like 30"x30" 8- Sheet 10, 6th Ave entrance & exit: Something that will be safe for all users and reasonable to the site's circulation is allowing a NB right turn into the southern entrance on 6th Ave, and then a right only out at the northern opening on 6th Ave. The curve and tangent piece at the north end lend itself to this movement. With having a right in at the south and right out at the north, any sight visibility complications with the 6th Ave underpass will be avoided. 9- Sheet 10, 6th Ave entrance near Corbett Sta 41+13: please place a No Left Turn symbol sign (R3-2) with BICYCLES EXEMPT placard underneath for SB 6th Ave traffic. This will prohibit SB 6th Ave vehicular traffic from turning left onto Corbett Ln, but will allow SB bicyclists to access the multi-use path to head east 10- Sheet 10, 6th Ave Sta 51+50: near the center of 6th Ave, please place a bike wayfinding legend ("dinner plate") for SB bicyclists to be directed towards multi-use path (see attached PDF and below for detail) 11- Sheet 10, 6th Ave entrance near Corbett Sta 41+13: consider placing green "ladder" crossing markings for bike crossing to draw motorists' attention to the fact that bicycles may be crossing here at path/6th Ave interface. See PDF for example on green stripes and spacing (24" wide green stripes). 12- Sheet 10, multi-use path from roughly Sta 41+25 to Sta 42+25: in this stretch, the MUP is less than 10' wide (tapers to 6' wide). Why? Can it be widened out by stealing width from the gore area? If not, it is not possible for bicyclists to maintain two-way travel while riding (they would need to walk their bikes in this stretch and it should be signed that way). How can we solve this? Please contact me if you have any questions. Greg Orsini, P.E. greg.orsini@tucsonaz.gov 268-5036 |
