06/14/2021 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change 1. Plumbing fixtures that receive or discharge liquid waste shall be directly connected to the sanitary drainage system (e.g. the shampoo sinks). Reference: Section 301.3, IPC 2018
2. Specify that all proposed plumbing fixtures (e.g. shampoo sinks and pedicure chairs) shall be listed by a third-party certification agency as complying with the relevant standards. Reference: Section 303.4, IPC 2018.
3. Verify that the pipe sizes called out for the plumbing fixtures will not result in water velocities greater than that recommended by the pipe manufacturer (e.g. limit the water velocity to less than 8 FPS for copper piping). For example, four pedicure chairs at 2 water fixture units each, have a combined demand of 12.8 GPM which has a water velocity of 8.5 FPS in ¾-inch Type L copper piping. Reference: Section 303.2, IPC 2018
4. Provide metering faucets for the lavatories, dispensing a maximum of 0.25 gallons per metering cycle. Verify that the faucet cycle will last for at least 10-seconds. Reference: Section 419.6, IPC 2018, as amended by the City of Tucson and Section 606.4, ICC/ANSI A117.1-09.
5. See https://www.tucsonaz.gov/files/pdsd/codes-ordinances/FootSpa_Plumbing.pdf for installation requirements for pedicure chairs (aka foot spas).
6. The fixture drain serving an automatic clothes washer shall connect to a fixture branch that is at least 3 inches in diameter. Reference: Section 406.2, IPC 2018. (Note: a fixture branch serves two or more fixtures.)
7. Provide the number of drinking fountains that complies with the requirements of Sections 2902.1 and 2902.5, IBC 2018 and Section 410.3, IPC 2018.
8. Provide pressure-absorbing devices for the water connections to appliances equipped with quick-acting or solenoid valves (e.g. clothes washer). Reference: Section 604.9, IPC 2018.
9. Correct the water fixture unit schedule to include the six shampoo sinks shown on the plans, include the required two water fountains, use 2 water fixture units for each public lavatory, and use 3 water fixture units for the public clothes washer as noted in Table E103.3 (2), IPC 2018. The correct total of the water fixture units is 40.5 which results in a demand of 26.5 GPM.
10. Provide cleanouts for all horizontal drains; the cleanouts shall not be located greater than 100-feet apart, measured along the developed pipe length from the upstream entrance of the cleanout. Reference: Section 708.1.1, IPC 2018.
06/14/2021 ROBERT SHERRY WATER REVIEW Reqs Change 1. Tucson Water will not allow the existing 5/8-inch water meter to supply a demand of 26 GPM. A ¾-inch meter will be required (see also keynote 12 on sheet P.2). [Initial comment: Provide the size of the water meter serving this building, the size of the backflow preventer associated with the water meter, and the total water demand served by the water meter. Reference: Section 107.2.1, IBC 2018.]
2. The corrected water demand of 26 GPM will require the 1-inch water service pipe to be increased to 1-1/4-inch to keep the water velocity below 8 FPS. Reference: Section 303.2, IPC 2018. [Initial comment: Show that the proposed plumbing work will not cause the existing water supply system to become overloaded. Reference: Section 107.2.1, IBC 2018.]
06/14/2021 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change 1. Clarify the existence of the “wall?” shown on sheets A.1 and A.3 that separates the hair drying area from the shampoo sinks. Reference: Section 107.2.1, IBC 2018.
2. Show how ventilation will be provided to room 106. Ventilation is required and must be provided whenever the space is occupied. Reference: Sections 401.2 and 401.3, IMC 2018.
3. Footnote b on Table 403.3.1.1, IMC 2018 states that mechanical exhaust is required for the beauty salon and the nail salon (room 102) and no air from those spaces may be recirculated to any other space (e.g. room 100). Reference: Section 403.2.1 (3), IMC 2018.
4. A barber shop requires 0.5 CFM of exhaust per square foot while both the beauty salon and nail salon require 0.6 CFM of exhaust per square foot. In addition, each manicure and pedicure station requires 50 CFM of source capture exhaust. Reference: Table 403.3.1.1 (see also footnote h), and Section 502.20, IMC 2018.
5. Verify that EF-1 is capable of moving 110 CFM through a 4-inch flex duct. Reference: Section 304.1, IMC 2018.
6. Revise the mechanical design as required to avoid using the corridor leading to the south exit as a return air duct. Reference: Section 601.2, IMC 2018.
