03/07/2019 | JSANDER1 | DOT_ELEC | REVIEW | Reqs Change | 1. Any references to MAG should be changed to PAG, to signify we are in Pima County not Maricopa County (Ex: sheet G-2, N.T.S. - 1 related to compaction, concrete compression etc). 2. Important: Existing pole is a type-2A which has a 15FT horizontal measurement from the center of the vertical shaft to the end of the mast arm, not a Type-2D which has an 18 FT measurement. The reference to a Type 2D is continuously noted in the drawings, on Sheet A2 note 8, Sheet A3 keynote 10, sheet E2 keynote 10, and drawn on sheet S1 box 1, the horizontal measurement needs to be changed to 15 FT which indicates a Type 2A pole. If the contractor brings a type 2D arm for this location it will be rejected. 3. This streetlight pole installation is utilizing single phase 480 volt power: For all installations with this voltage... On Sheet G-1, N.T.S 5 "Grounding details"... The drawing is indicated as a representation of grounding, this includes "bonding" of metal parts all the way back to the load center or at least the City "J" box or pull box which should be noted. I copied the next paragraphs from an email I sent to another contractor, they used the same drawing as AT&T did! I edited to better relate to this AT&T drawing. Please excuse any redundancy. This type of single phase 480 volt system which 95% our streetlights are, does not use a Neutral. There are two lines (two black wires each with 240 volt to ground) Obviously you can't have a white wire which is the NEC standard color for a Neutral, which is a non-current carrying conductor, used as a current carrying conductor with 240 volts. Hand hole and grounding detail (Sheet G-1, NTS 5) continued : "480V POLE HAND HOLE AND GROUNDING DETAIL" : In your notes within the box I see you are trying to cover all voltage scenarios. For this installation both wires are "240 volts #12 black-THW / XHHW". You can add note here both wires are black in color and carrying 240 volts each for single phase 480 volt systems. The representation of the wire nuts can be eliminated in your hand hole drawing because if possible we like a continuous run from the fuse holders in the pull box (J Box) to the fixture, not spliced at the hand hole. In this case you'd have a continuous run of #10 THW, but #12 is OK from pull box to fixture. Also at the hand hole drawing, Change text "#8 Cu FROM GROUND GREEN - THW / XHHW - FROM JUNCTION BOX" to read ( #8 BARE CU FROM POLE GROUND buss TO CITY J-BOX ) This will be our bond wire which connects to all the metal poles and goes back to the grounding lug at the City load center. Note: The City of Tucson Roadway Lighting Systems don't use a green ground/bond wire. We use a #8 BARE SOLID COPPER BOND for the grounding/bonding system within the circuit conduits and to any grounded equipment or ground buss. The only place you might see a green ground is in the luminaire or maybe some small equipment at the load center. (note the #4 bare Cu wire from foundation to pole ground bolt at hand hole or ground buss is correct!) |
