07/02/2018 | PMCLAUG1 | COMMUNITY PLANNING | REVIEW | Completed | Background: This is a Special Exception request by Declan Murphy of Coal-Creek Consulting, on behalf of Tower Com, for a new stealth wireless communication facility to be located on a vacant parcel on East 22nd Street just west of Swan Road in Tucson. The applicant is proposing a new wireless antenna array to be mounted on a new 65' co-locatable broadleaf tree/stealth tower. Both 22nd Street and Swan Road are classified as Arterial Roadways on the Major Streets and Routes Plan map. Surrounding Zoning and Land Uses: The property is surrounded by C-2 zoning to the east, south and west, and the properties are occupied by retail commercial uses to the east and south, and extended stay traveler's accommodations to the west. North of the subject property is zoned R-1, and occupied by vacant properties, and a single-family residential subdivision. APPLICABLE PLAN POLICIES: Plan Tucson: Requires that telecommunications facilities be located, installed, and maintained to minimize visual impact and preserve views. Cabling and fiber optics should be installed underground where possible, and the visual impact of cellular towers should be a prime consideration in the city's acceptance and approval. PT also provides policy direction in the improvement and the appearance of above-ground utilities and structures, and supports extending access to high-tech wireless communications facilities throughout the city. |
