09/18/2017 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change 1. Coordinate the gas loads for the mechanical equipment. With the exception of DOAS-1, none of the gas loads used to determine the size of the low-pressure gas piping equal the scheduled gas inputs for the rooftop units. Curiously, the scheduled gas input for GWH-1 is 125 MBH on sheet P0.2 but 200 MBH on sheet P2.1. [Second comment: When Southwest Gas delivers natural gas at the gas meter with a pressure of 7" WG, you will not be able to deliver the required minimum gas pressure to the water heater (i.e. gas flow with no pressure drop is physically impossible). Reference: Section 402.5, IFGC 2012.] [Initial comment: Clarify the minimum operating gas pressure for the water heater. The manufacturer recommends a minimum operating gas pressure of 7" WG unless the low-inlet gas pressure option is selected when the water heater is ordered. Southwest Gas, the local gas utility, provides natural gas at 7" WG, 2 PSIG, and 5 PSIG. Appliances needing gas service at 7" WG or greater will require a gas meter that delivers at least 2-PSIG gas into a regulator located after the meter set. Reference: Section 402.1, IFGC 2012.]
2. With the exception of venting for island fixtures (Section 916, IPC 2012) and vents for interceptors located outdoors (exception, Section 905.4, IPC 2012), the IPC does not allow the use of horizontal vents (i.e. flat vents) below the flood rim of a fixture being vented. See Sections 914 and 915, IPC 2012 for alternatives to flat venting. [Second comment: General note #6 on sheet P1.3 addresses Section 905.5, IPC 2012 but this comment is based on Section 905.4, IPC 2012.] [Initial comment: Verify that all of the vents rise vertically to at least 6" above the flood rims of the fixtures they protect prior to running horizontally (the condition appears to occur in 13 places). Reference: Section 905.4, IPC 2012.]
09/19/2017 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change Using an alternative method of determining the population to calculate the required ventilation cannot be accepted until after an appeal to the building official has been approved. [Second comment: The City of Tucson has adopted the 2012 International Mechanical Code, not ASHRAE 62.1 for determining the minimum required ventilation rate. Provide an appeal to the building official requesting to use an alternate anticipated maximum population of the theaters based on fixed seating in the theaters rather than the occupant load shown in Table 403.3, IMC 2012. Reference: Section 104.11, IBC 2012 and Section 403.3 (exception), IMC 2012.] [Initial comment: Provide calculations to show that the ventilation system has been sized in accordance with Section 403.3, IMC 2012.]
