BUILDING – COMMERCIAL
In regards to previous building comment 2, the COMcheck included on sheet G0.1 does not coincide with the architectural drawings. Exterior wall 1 is shown on the COMcheck to have R-5.9 continuous insulation; however the revised building sections on sheet A3.3 indicate R-5 continuous insulation. Also,
For exterior wall 2 the COMcheck shows R-19 cavity insulation and R-5.9 continuous insulation, while the building sections show R-13 cavity insulation and 1” continuous insulation (which is normally R-5, but a higher R-value insulation per 1” thickness could be specified). Also,
The COMcheck does not include the uninsulated masonry wall at the clearstory level in the Reception area. The COMcheck must be revised to match the architectural drawings.

In regards to previous mechanical comments 2 and 3, the ME’s response challenges the City of Tucson’s basis summer design temperature (104-degrees F) and winter basis design temperature (35-degrees F) for performing load calculations and selecting heating and cooling equipment, and states, “as a requirement for building and equipment performance actual weather data was used to size coils and system performances. Two years of weather data from weather underground was evaluated with summer high sensible, summer high latent, and winter low data identified.” The load calculations were performed and equipment was selected by the ME using 113-degrees F summer db temperature and 22-degrees F winter db temperature. We will accept using local weather data if the ASHRAE protocol is used to determine the summer and winter 1% design temperatures. Please submit your calculations based on ASHRAE to show that 113 degrees and 22 degrees are appropriate for Tucson.
