PROJECT REVIEWER: Lance Peterson, DOT Eng. Inspections

Comments:

TDOT Engineering Inspection Unit has completed the review of the PIA plan and recommends resubmittal. The following comments need to be addressed in the subsequent plan.

1. Sheet 1 - Note 7 - Asphalt concrete shall conform to the new City of Tucson asphalt mixes.
2. Sheet 1 - Detail E - Typically 5 foot sidewalk id required for new construction. Can 5 foot side fit behind curb?
3. Sheet 2 - Note 6 - This note references STD 203 for Driveways. STD 203 id for sidewalk connection.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at 837-6777 or Lance.Peterson@tucsonaz.gov

09/30/2016 LINZUNZA DOT ENGINEERING REVIEW Needs Review Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation
The report states the following:
1 . "At their existing moisture contents, the natural soils have low compressive potentials under the loads expected for the construction. At increasing moisture contents, some of the natural surface soils show moderate to high additional compression or 'collapse". Therefore, these surface soils will require special preparations to reduce the potential for settlement of overlaying construction…. It is extremely important. Therefore, that precautions be taken in design, construction preparations, and maintenance to minimize the potential for moisture increases from any source) beneath the structures."

How will the conclusions from the report be applied to the design and construction of the roadway improvements?

Cover Sheet
Technical Standards Modification Request
The TSM states the following:
Item1. "However a 2 foot space between the back of curb and the sidewalk must be maintained."

Typical cross section "E" shows 1.5 Ft. between sidewalk and back of curb.

1. Typical cross section E shows 1% cross slope of new asphalt pavement. Change to COT (City of Tucson) typical cross slope is 2%.

2. See COT Drafting Standards

A) Need title of project at top and center of cover sheet.

B) Location map - remove clutter (this map is for contractor and others to find the job site).

C) Site map - remove clutter (this map is for reference of the work to be constructed) .

Sheet 2 of 3

1.See COT Drafting Standards.

2.Need horizontal curve table.

3.Need vertical curve information.

4.Remove lot information from profile.

5.Remove development information not pertinent to constructing PIA improvements. Likewise incorporate all information from Development plan which is needed to construct improvements in the R/W.

6.Remove contour lines.

7.Need to continue new asphalt to northern limits of sidewalk and curb.

8.Need new vertical curb from approx. station 7+00 west side of Manitoba Ave. past 16 Ft. alley west of lot 1.

9.Maximum 2% cross slope (ADA requirement) of pedestrian access path between ramps north side of Escalante Rd. and Manitoba Ave. (show as a detail).

10.Remove site triangles (Development plan requirement not PIA).

11.Northwest corner of intersect Escalante Rd. and Manitoba Ave. show an arch for the limits of removal and new asphalt. Much easier to remove and construct to straight lines.

12.When will the utilities be installed and base upon what plan?

13.Key notes 2 and 3 remove if work is done under the development plans.

14.Sheet 3 of 3 modify curb access ramp details to show current ADA requirements

If you have questions or comments please set up a meeting to discuss prior to next submittal
