10/20/2015 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change 1. The relief from a Watts 009 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is through an air gap fitting; the discharge from that point is gravity flow. [Second comment: The relief valve discharge for a ¾" Watts 009 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly will be between 20 and 30 GPM. Per Section 709.3, IPC 2012, the fixture units for 20-30 GPM continuous or semi-continuous flows would be 40-60 fixture units. Table 710.1(2), IPC 2012 shows a 3" horizontal branch is capable of handling 20 fixture units and a 4" horizontal branch can accommodate 160 fixture units. Clearly, a ½" gravity drain pipe will be insufficient for this.] [Initial comment: Provide indirect waste piping for the discharges of the reduced pressure backflow preventers to an approved indirect waste receptor. Reference: Section 608.13.3, IPC 2012.]
2. Concealed means not hidden from view. This is what the manufacturer's installation instructions require. [Second comment: According to the manufacturer, the Watts 009 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is to be located in an accessible location that is not concealed so that discharge from the relief valve will be visible and so that no part of the valve can be submerged.] [Initial comment: Locate the reduced pressure backflow preventers to conform to the access and clearance requirements of Section 608.14, IPC 2012.]
10/20/2015 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change The ventilation calculations call for 780 CFM of exhaust from the nail salon but the balancing notes on the drawing call for a total of only 680 CFM of exhaust (EF-1 - 200, EF-2 - 400 CFM, and EF-4 - 80 CFM). [Second comment: The calculated outside air quantity and the required exhaust quantity are not reflected in the balancing data on the mechanical plan.] [Initial comment: Revise the ventilation calculations to indicate the main space is a nail salon, not "Education, Classroom (9+)".]
