02/13/2015 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Reqs Change 1. When entering the insulation values for the building components such as walls, the insulating value of the building assemblies (e.g. air films, gypsum board, CMU, etc) is already accounted for by the software. Added insulation such as the insulation installed into the cavities between the furring or the framing structure (not the cavities in the CMU) or the continuous insulation installed continuously over the framing members without significant thermal bridges would be entered into the cavity or continuous insulation fields. In the case of the wall section depicted in detail A6/A402, for instance, you would enter an 8" CMU wall with metal furring, and add the R-value of the 1-1/2" rigid insulation in the cavity field. A complex wall assembly such as shown in detail A9/A403 would be entered as an "other" wall type and the calculations of the wall assembly U-factor would be included with the COMcheck analysis. [Initial comment: Revise the insulation type for the exterior walls on the Envelope Compliance Certificate from "Continuous R-value" to "Cavity R-value". The Z-purlins form thermal bridges; continuous insulation is continuous over framing members or furring strips and is free of significant thermal bridging.]
2. The "attached" specification was not found in the submittal. Be sure that the specification includes the NFRC certification number (CPD#) of the door. [Initial comment: The vendor door (uninsulated single-layer metal, swinging) does not have an NFRC certification product rating and shall use the default U-factor from Table C303.1.3 (2), IECC 2012. Reference: Section C303.1, IECC 2012.
