05/28/2014 | ROBERT SHERRY | MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Reqs Change | The occupant load used to calculate the required ventilation is not necessarily the same as the occupant load used for calculating exiting requirements. The occupant load used for calculating the minimum required ventilation is to be based on Table 403.3, IMC 2012 or an approved engineering analysis of the specific occupancy type. As an example, a retail sales area of 34,241 square feet would have 15 people per 1,000 square feet for a total population of 514 people. The HVAC system can have the amount of ventilation that you feel is needed as long as the ventilation rate is at least as much as that required by Section 403.3, IMC 2012 and the system has the capability to reduce the ventilation rate to that required by Section 403.3, IMC 2012. Reference: Section 403.3, IMC 2012. [Second comment: Clarify source of the occupant load used to determine the amount of outside air for the building. Section C403.2.5, IECC 2012 requires the HVAC system to have the capability to reduce the amount of ventilation to the minimum ventilation calculated by Section 403.3, IMC 2012.] [Initial comment: Provide calculations demonstrating adequate ventilation using the current code. The calculations for rooftop units supplying multiple zones shall comply with Sections403.3.2.3, IMC 2012. Reference: Section 403.2, IMC 2012.] |
