10/08/2013 JOSE ORTIZ DOT TRAFFIC REVIEW Denied PLANS # i-2013-016
ACTIVITY NUMBER: T13PI00019
PROJECT NAME: Cantera S Phase 73-142
PROJECT ADDRESS: Benson Hwy & Alvernon Wy
PROJECT REVIEWER: Matthew Geweke, Traffic Eng. Tech

Resubmittal Required: Traffic Engineering does not recommend approval of the PIA Plan; therefore a revised PIA Plan is required for re-submittal. The following items must be revised or added to the plan. Please include a response letter with the next submittal that states how all comments have been addressed and resubmit the original redline set of plans for back checking purposes.

1. See redlines on the submitted drawing Shts to address these redline comments:
- Sht 2 please use complete TDOT Signing Notes and update the Striping Notes.
- Throughout the plans, Note [27] Street Name Signs come in pairs. Their size is speed sensitive so use attached info for sign and font formatting, also add this info to Signing Notes Sht with the correct street names, address block numbers and proper compass direction to the included graph.
- Shts 5-10 please collect the signing & striping notes, make the corrections and add them to Sht 12
- STOP signs do have street name signs attached to the post assembly. Please update key note {18}
- Do not install signs so close together that one sign may block another. Hammond Dr. by lot #16 spread the signs out please.
- Please try to install signs on property lines, not on top of the HCS line or in the middle of a possible new driveway.
- Place street name signs on the approach to cross street, not after the intersection.
- Try to keep street name sign posts a bit closer to the depressed wheelchair ramp for better motorist visibility from all intersection approaches
- Please make sure you correctly label and call-out all the entire signing or striping nomenclatures, especially when RPM's are necessary.
- Please make sure that the call-out arrow is pointing to the correct icon.
- Please use TDOT Striping Standard 6-4 HAWK Ped Xing as model and modify to use with the PELICAN Ped Xing on Sht 11 (see attachment)
-If this PELICAN Ped Xing across Alvernon & Antrim is going to be installed as a School Ped Xing, please provide proper documentation; a recent Ped Study and school district student counts, the formal request letter from the requesting School Transportation Administration or Superintendent of School District, the requested schools classroom hours of instruction for each day of the week, the measured walk distance from the PELICAN Ped Xing to the requesting campus property as per the Recommended Walk Route as well as the updated/recent School District Recommended Walk Route map for that school.
-Gray scale or superfluous information (right of way lines, elevation lines, grades, survey bearings, landscaping, overhead utilities) on the signing and striping sheets are not useful and add confusion for the signing or striping contractor who is handed a faxed 8.5x11 copied piece of paper/plans.

If you wish to email me at Matthew.Geweke@tucsonaz.gov with a PDF of redlines and the corrected Shts with the revisions of these requested changes, we could expedite the Traffic Eng. acceptance/approval of these plans.

I can also be reached at 791-4259 x76665 with any questions.
Thanks…
