10/17/2013 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. The only copies of the envelope compliance certification with this submittal don't appear to have been revised. [Initial comment: Revise the energy code analysis for the building envelope, coordinating the building components used in the analysis with those shown on the drawing (e.g. the building has wood trusses, not steel trusses; the roof does not appear to have the R-34.6 continuous insulation called out on the COMcheck component section). Reference: Section C303.1, IECC 2012, as amended by the City of Tucson.]
2. Both heat pumps do have an EER of 11.2; the minimum required EER is 12.0 to comply with Section C406, IECC 2012. [Initial comment: The submitted COMcheck Envelope Compliance Certificate calls for the proposed HVAC system to meet the requirements of Section C406.2, IECC 2012. Per Section C406.2, the minimum EER for a heat pump <240 MBH is 12.0. The submitted heat pumps are rated only with an EER of 1.2. Reference: Section C303.1, International Energy Conservation Code 2012.]
3. Revise the sequence of operation for the restroom fans. The fans are still shown as being controlled with occupancy sensors in the restrooms. [Initial comment: Verify that the sequence of operation for the restroom exhaust fans is such that all of the air supplied to the restrooms will be exhausted (i.e. the exhaust fan shall run even if the restroom lights are off during operating hours). Reference: Section 403.2.1 (4), IMC 2012.]
10/17/2013 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. The connection schedule indicates that the water closets will be 1". Show that the branch serving the water closets is at least 1-1/4" to keep the water velocity under 8 feet per second. [Initial comment: Verify that the pipe sizes called out for the flush valves will not result in water velocities greater than that recommended by the pipe manufacturer (e.g. limit the water velocity to less than 8 FPS for copper). Reference: Table 604.3, IPC 2012.]
2. The invert for the backwater valve is approximately six-feet below grade. A 12" x 12" access panel will not provide adequate access to the specified backwater valve.[Initial comment: Show how access is to be provided to the backwater valve. Reference: Section 715.5, IPC 2012.]
3. The two of the floor sinks located near the northeast area of the building have horizontal vents below the slab. [Initial comment: Verify that all of the vents rise vertically to at least 6" above the flood rims of the fixtures they protect prior to running horizontally. Reference: Section 905.4, IPC 2012.]
