09/25/2013 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied Based on the submitted roof areas, the north downspout and all of the scuppers are too small. Use Table 1106.2(1) for sizing the downspouts. The scuppers may be sized as rectangular weirs (none of the tables in the IPC show how to size weirs but some information is presented in the 2012 IPC Code and Commentary), using 0.031 GPM per square foot of roof area to determine the flow rate. The head of the water used to calculate the required scupper width can be provided by the structural engineer per Sections 1611.1 and 1611.3, IBC 2012. The typical head used is 2" of water depth. [Initial comment: Scuppers provide drainage for discrete roof areas; unequal roof areas will require individual calculations. In the design shown on sheet A3.1, the downspout for the center roof area is undersized and all of the scuppers are undersized. Provide roof drainage and hydraulic scupper size calculations based on the 100-year hourly rainfall rate for Tucson, 3" per hour and state the maximum water depth you are using for the scupper size calculations. Reference: Sections 1106.1, 1106.4, and 1108.3, IPC 2012.]
