12/02/2013 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied The site utilities plan, MEP-1, the plumbing plan, P1, and the civil utilities plan, C7 are not close to being coordinated. There are three different points of entry to the building shown on the three drawings for the natural gas, the domestic water, the grease waste, and the sanitary waste. The civil plans also show the size of the water service to be 1-1/2" compared to the 2" shown on P1 and both the grease waste and the sanitary waste are 6" on the civil plans compared to the 4" shown on P1. The site plan, MEP-1 has the north arrow pointed due west and the vicinity map on sheet T-1 shows the property to be located on the east side of South Wilmot Road and north of I-10 even though the property is actually located south of I-10 along the west side of South Wilmot Road. Coordinate the plans and include the civil utility plans as part of the building plan set; the construction of the on-site utilities must be included as part of a building permit
12/03/2013 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Keynote 7 on sheet M1 and the grease duct note on sheet M3 direct the contractor to "Coordinate required fire rated enclosure of kitchen hood exhaust as per NFPA and IMC". No design is shown on the drawings; provide a design for the contractor to install an approved grease duct enclosure per Section 506.3.11, IMC 2012. A grease duct serving a Type I hood, but not wrapped with a fire-resistive material meeting the requirements of ASTM E 2336 (Section 506.3.11.2, IMC 2012) or constructed of a factory-built grease duct assembly listed and labeled for use in accordance with UL-2221 (Section 506.3.11.3, IMC 2012), shall be enclosed within a duct enclosure constructed in accordance with Section 506.3.11.1, IMC 2012.
2. The griddle hood and the fryer hood are supported on the exterior walls of the building. The walls are built with wood studs. Unless the hoods are listed for zero-clearance to combustibles, revise the installation of the hood to provide 18" of clearance between the hood and combustible construction (note that wood studs covered by gypsum board and a sheet of stainless steel are considered combustible construction by the IMC). Reference: Section 507.9, IMC 2012; see also Section 507.10, IMC 2012.
3. The revised detail (3/M3) shows the exhaust fan supported on a wooden curb. Per Section 506.4, IMC 2012, exhaust equipment shall have a clearance to combustibles of not less than 18". In addition, the minimum height of the discharge opening of the fan shall be at least 40" above the surface of the roof. [Initial comment: Show that the outlet of fans EF-2 and EF-3 comply with the requirements of Section 506.5.5, IMC 2012.]
