04/16/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Sheet M-3 shows ceiling diffusers located within two-feet of the front of the Type I hoods. Show that the hoods are being installed in accordance with the conditions of their listing and the manufacturer's installation requirements. Reference: Section 304.1, IMC 2006. 2. Provide information on the sequence of operation for the restroom exhaust fans to show that all of the air supplied to the restrooms will be exhausted. Reference: Section 403.2.1 (4), IMC 2006. 3. Revise the configuration of the natural gas sediment trap, as shown in details J/M-7 and A/M-8, to comply with the requirements of Section 408.4, IFGC 2006 (i.e. the trap is to be in the bottom opening of the run of the tee, not in the branch of the tee). |
04/16/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | WATER | REVIEW | Denied | Provide a letter from Tucson Water (Contact: Fred Coy, 520-837-2220) confirming that the use of a 2" water meter will be allowed for this project which you have determined to have a demand of 102 GPM. (Note that your demand calculations were based on fixture units for water closets and urinals as "Public" but they should have been based on fixture units for "Assembly" occupancy. Reference: Table A-2, UPC 2006.) |
04/17/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Clarify the plumbing code to be used for this activity. The plumbing General Notes on sheet P3.1 refer to the 2006 UPC but the Architect's Code Analysis on the cover sheet refers to the 2006 IPC. This review has been made using the 2006 UPC. 2. Water heaters with inputs of 200,000 BTUH or greater are classified as boilers and require approval from the Arizona Boiler Inspector. Reference: Title 20, Chapter 5, Article 4, Arizona Administrative Code. 3. Provide water supply isometrics. Reference: Section 103.2.3, UPC 2006. 4. Revise the size of the grease drain (shown as 6") running from north to south through room 118 and connecting to the existing 4" grease drain. Any fitting or connection in a drainage system that results in a reduction of the pipe area is prohibited. Reference: Section 316.4.1, UPC 2006. 5. Provide a floor drain in the Men's restroom (room 111). Reference: Section 411.2, UPC 2006. 6. Regarding keynote 2, sheet p2.2, the City of Tucson requires a reduced pressure backflow preventer to be located immediately after the water meter. Reference: Section 603.0, UPC 2006. 7. Appliances (e.g. ovens, ice makers, etc) to be directly connected to the water supply system that do not have listed, integral backflow preventers or integral air gaps conforming to Table 6-3, UPC 2006 require backflow prevention. Specify the type of backflow prevention device required for each water connection. Reference: Sections 602.3, 603.0, and Table 6-2, UPC 2006. 8. Revise your water demand calculations: the calculations are based on fixture units for water closets and urinals for "Public" occupancy but they should be based on fixture units for "Assembly" occupancy. Reference: Section 610.3 and Table A-2, UPC 2006. 9. Limit the water velocity to less than 8 fps for the copper piping. Reference: Sections 610.12 and A 6.1, UPC 2006; and IAPMO IS 3-2000, Section 610.0. If PEX-a is to be allowed in lieu of copper piping, provide a conversion chart for determining the correct sizes of PEX-a that will limit the water velocity to no more than 8 feet per second and the allowable pressure drop to no more than 3.59 PSI per 100-feet (per your calculations). 10. The branch piping sizes called out for the water closet flush valves will result in water velocities greater than 8 FPS. Limit the water velocity to less than 8 FPS for the copper piping. Reference: Sections 610.12 and A 6.1, UPC 2006 and IS 3-2003, Section 2.6. 11. Provide an upper terminal cleanout for the horizontal drainage pipe that begins with the 2" floor sink near the north wall of room 118. Reference: Section 707.4, UPC 2006. 12. Revise the design of the 2-way cleanout shown in detail 5/p5.1; an approved 2-way cleanout fitting is a single fitting, not a field-assembled group of individual fittings. Reference: Sections 707.4 and 707.6, UPC 2006. 13. Provide a direct waste connection for the wash and rinse sections of the 3-compartment sink (KEQ#47), with an indirect connection for the sanitizing compartment only. Reference: Sections 304.0, 704.3, and 801.2.3, UPC 2006. 14. Sinks which cannot be vented because they are located in a bar may use indirect waste connections provided that the developed length from the fixture outlet to the receptor does not exceed five feet. Verify that none of the indirect wastes in the bar area will exceed five feet in developed length. Reference: Section 801.3, UPC 2006. 15. Each vent for a combination waste and vent system shall be at least one-half of the cross-sectional area of the pipe being vented e.g. a 6" drain, with an area of 28.9 square inches, requires a 5" vent). Reference: Section 910.3, UPC 2006. 16. A vent connection for a combination waste and vent system shall be located downstream of the uppermost fixture. Reference: Section 910.3, UPC 2006. 17. Revise the length of the trap arms (e.g. the 2" floor drains in the restrooms and the kitchen) to conform to Table 10-1, UPC 2006. Reference: Section 1002.2, UPC 2006. 18. Verify and coordinate the natural gas inputs for the kitchen appliances with the food service drawings. Reference: Sections 103.2.3 and 1209.1, UPC 2006. 19. The substitution of CSST for carbon steel gas piping will require the plans to be resubmitted for additional review. Reference: Section 1209.5.1.1, UPC 2006. |
