| 05/11/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Comment not resolved. The plumbing water riser (5/M-2) incorrectly shows the water closets, lavatories, mop sink, and the drinking fountain, as well as the yard hydrant, all downstream of the reduced pressure backflow preventer. The yard hydrant is the only fixture that requires backflow protection; and the reduced pressure backflow preventer that requires access by Tucson Water is shown on the civil drawings, just downstream of the water meter. The ¾" water supply to the freeze-proof hydrant on the roof appears to be "drifting in space"; with no connection to any other pipes and the arrow pointing to it has no associated notes. The riser diagram also shows the lavatories having the hot water on the right and the cold water on the left. [Original comment: Provide backflow protection for the freeze-proof yard hydrant located at grade and provide signage for the hydrant to indicate that the water is non-potable. Reference: Sections 601.2 and 602.3, UPC 2006.] 2. Comment not resolved. The thermal expansion tank shall be located downstream of the cold water shut-off valve for the water heater, with no isolation valve for the thermal expansion tank itself. Similarly, the required vacuum relief valve shall be located on the cold water inlet to the water heater with no isolation valves between the vacuum relief valve and the hot water storage tank. [Original comment: Provide a detail of the water heater installation, including the excess pressure relief, expansion tank, vacuum relief, and valves. Reference: Sections 103.2.3, 605.5, 608.3, and 608.7 UPC 2006.] 3. Comment not addressed. [Original comment: Revise the size of the primary and overflow scuppers to comply with the requirements of Section 1101.11.2.1, UPC 2006. Refer also to Section 1106.4, UPC 2006.] 4. Clarify the plumbing code to be used for this activity. The Plumbing Notes on sheet M-2 refer to the 2006 UPC but the revised Building Code Analysis on sheet A-0 now refers to the 2006 IPC. The first two reviews of this activity have been made using the 2006 UPC. |
