04/05/2013 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. The submitted roof drainage calculations are incorrect. Table 11-3, IPC 2006 is based upon horizontal conductors running full at a given slope (Table 11-2, IPC 2006, is for vertical conductors only). The design shows a scupper with a weir entry and a short section of a sloping (½" per foot) conductor followed by a steeply sloping conductor; hydraulically, the conductor will exhibit open-channel flow, not full flow. In addition, the plumbing code requires the minimum dimension of a scupper to be 4"; as designed, the scupper has a 4" dimension only at the midpoint of the opening and thus does not meet the code requirement. Submit hydraulic calculations to show that the proposed roof drainage design meets or exceeds the intent of the plumbing code and provides an equivalent level of effectiveness, durability, and safety to the code provisions. Reference: Section 105.4, IPC 2006. [Original comment: Provide roof drainage calculations for OQ-3. Show that the circular scuppers and canales are capable of providing adequate drainage for the roof. Note that Section 1107.3, IPC 2006 requires a minimum opening size of 4" - typically a rectangular opening. Reference: Sections 1101, 1106 and 1107, IPC 2006.] 2. Issue not resolved; see comment number 1.[Original comment: Provide overflow protection for the roof of OQ-3 or provide structural calculations to show that the roof is capable of supporting the additional rain load if the primary roof drains are blocked for any reason. Reference: Sections 1101, 1106 and 1107, IPC 2006 and Section 1611.1, IBC 2006.] |
