02/15/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. The drinking fountains (P-5 and P-6) require the installation of a freeze-resistant box to be mounted on an "interior, heated wall" where the temperature does not drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Verify that the temperature of the plumbing chase will not drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Reference: Section 310.4, UPC 1006. 2. The lavatory, P-4, is specified with a spout flow rate of 1.4 GPM but with no timing criteria for the metering feature. The maximum flow rates for plumbing fixtures shall be consistent with ARS Title 45, Chapter 1, Article 12, 45-313. (See text at: http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ArizonaRevisedStatutes.asp). In addition, accessible metering faucets shall remain open for a minimum of 10 seconds. Reference: Section 402.1, UPC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson and Section 606.4, ICC/ANSI A117.1-2003. 3. The specified urinal only washes down one of its enclosing walls when flushed which is prohibited under Section 405.2, UPC 2006. 4. Revise the water pressure and pipe sizing calculations using Appendix A, UPC 2006. Include the pressure drops for the water meter, the reduced pressure backflow preventer, the static lift, the developed pipe length from the water meter to the furthest fixture, and the minimum pressure required for operation of the fixtures. The specified water closets and urinal require a minimum flow pressure of 25 PSI; the specified drinking fountain requires a minimum flowing water pressure of 20 PSI. Reference: Sections 608.1, 610.1, 610.2, and 610.5, UPC 2006. 5. Clarify the materials to be used for the domestic water piping; Specification 15050, Section 2.01 B allows the use of schedule 40 galvanized carbon steel, Type K soft-drawn copper tubing, or Type L hard-drawn copper tubing. These materials have different internal diameters and different allowable water velocities. If copper tubing is to be used, the size of the branches serving the water closets and the urinal are too small to limit the water velocity to less than 8 FPS (a 1.6 GPF blow out water closet flows about 35 GPM and a urinal flows about 15 GPM). Reference: Sections 610.12 and A 6.1, UPC 2006 and IS 3-2003, Section 2.6. |
