| 01/13/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. A permanently legible imprint of the registrant's seal and signature, along with the date the documents were sealed, shall appear on the cover, title, index page, or first sheet of each set of the project specifications. Reference: Arizona Revised Statutes 32-125, Board of Technical Registration Rules R4-30-304. 2. Provide energy code compliance calculations for the building envelope; use the climate zone for "Pima County < 4,000 feet" (Tombstone, Arizona is not in the same climate zone as Tucson). Provide sufficient detail on the drawings to evaluate the energy compliance of the building envelope. The information shall, as a minimum, include U-factors of the envelope systems and fenestration components, along with the R-values of the insulation and the SHGC for the fenestration. These values (e.g. the SHGC) shall be coordinated with those contained in the component specifications. Reference: Sections 101.4 and 104.2, International Energy Conservation Code 2006. 3. Provide listing information for or show that the "Costgard" condensate trap for the air conditioning units has been approved for use by the manufacturers of the roof top units. Reference: Section 304.1, IMC 2006. 4. The minimum insulation for ducts located in indirectly conditioned spaces within the building envelope is R-4.2 (installed). Reference: Section 503.2.7, IECC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson. 5. The minimum insulation for ducts located outside of the building envelope or in a space that freely communicates with the outside is R-8. Reference: Section 503.2.7, IECC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson. 6. Revise the sequence of operation for the restroom exhaust fans so that all of the air supplied to the restrooms will be exhausted (i.e. rooms shall be exhausted even if the lights are not on). Reference: Section 403.2.1 (4), IMC 2006. 7. Revise the description for the Pharmacy area restroom in the ventilation calculations to "public". "Private use" for plumbing fixtures applies to fixtures that are intended for the use of a family or a specific individual (e.g. a restroom in a private office). Reference: Section 218.0, UPC 2006. |
| 01/13/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | WATER | REVIEW | Denied | A demand flow of 42 GPM through a 1" water meter results in an excessive pressure drop and a velocity greater than the maximum 8 FPS allowed for either plastic or copper piping. In addition, Tucson Water limits the 1" meter to a maximum demand of 25 GPM. Reference: Sections 610.2 and 610.12, UPC 2006. (Note that sheet 3 of 8 in the Landscaping drawing package calls for the installation of a separate water meter for landscaping use.) |
| 01/17/2012 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Clarify the plumbing code to be used for this activity. The Project Information on sheet G-010 refers to both the 2006 UPC and the 2006 IPC. This review has been made using the 2006 UPC. 2. All plumbing fixtures and fittings shall be listed or labeled by a nationally-recognized, accredited conformity assessment company (e.g. UL, ETL, UPC, etc). Provide material standards for all plumbing fixtures being provided by Walgreen's. Reference: Sections 301.1.1 and 401.1, UPC 2006. 3. Clarify the "open site drain" mentioned in detail 1/P-610: the plan view in the detail points to the drain of the sink but note 1 describes a different location for the open site drain. If it is an indirect waste receptor, it must be trapped, vented, and comply with the requirements of Sections 411.1 and 804.1, UPC 2006. 4. Clarify the type of water heater being installed; keynote 22 10 04 on sheet M-111 calls for a gas-fired water heater, keynote 22 10 04 on sheet P-111 calls for an electric water heater, and both types are specified on sheet P-610. Reference: Section 103.2.3, UPC 2006. 5. Provide structural calculations to show that the water heater is safely supported and provide details to show how the proposed water heater support platform is to be connected to the building structure (the referenced detail, 26/I-211, does not exist). Reference: Sections 310.0 and 314.5, UPC 2006. 6. Show that the restroom floors slope toward the floor drains. Reference: Section 411.2, UPC 2006. 7. The specified temperature mixing valve (ASSE 1017-listed) is capable of supplying water with a minimum hot water supply temperature that is 5 degrees Fahrenheit above the set point. Provide the temperature set point to show that the hot water supply to the public lavatories will be controlled to a maximum temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Reference: Section 413.1, UPC 2006 and Section 504.3, IECC 2006. 8. Provide a vacuum relief for the storage-type water heater located above any fixture outlets. Reference: Section 608.7, UPC 2006. 9. The pressure drop for a Febco series 825Y reduced pressure zone assembly is much greater than 4 PSI. Recalculate the pressure loss calculations and resize the water piping if required. Reference: Section 610.2, UPC 2006. 10. The branch piping sizes called out for the flush valves will result in water velocities greater than 8 FPS. Limit the water velocity to less than 8 FPS for the copper piping. Reference: Sections 610.12 and A 6.1, UPC 2006 and IS 3-2003, Section 2.6. 11. The minimum size for the waste line serving a sink (i.e. SK-1, SK-2, and SK-3) is 2". Reference: footnote 2, Table 7-3 and footnote 2, Table 7-5, UPC 2006. 12. Provide upper terminal cleanouts on horizontal drainage pipes exceeding 5 feet in length (horizontal drain lines serving sinks (e.g. SK-2 and SK-3) require cleanouts regardless of length). Provide cleanouts sized per Section 707.11, UPC 2006. Reference: Section 707.4, UPC 2006. 13. Provide protection of the trap seals for all floor drains subject to infrequent use (i.e. floor drains in the restrooms and adjacent to the termination of the water heater T&P relief). Reference: Sections 1007.0 and 1007.1, UPC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson. |
