05/07/2012 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Comment not resolved; the gas piping shown on the drawings is disjointed and incomplete, with missing labels. The "existing" gas loads as well as the new gas loads have been significantly increased from the original submittal. [Original comment: Provide a diagram of the complete high pressure (5 PSIG) and low pressure (<2 PSIG) gas distribution systems for review. The diagram shall include all loads and the distances from the meter to each pressure regulator and from each pressure regulator to each load point. Reference: Section 106.3.1, IFGC 2006.]
2. Comment not addressed; no changes were evident on the architectural drawings. [Original comment: Provide calculations to show that the revised roof scuppers are adequate to protect the roof from the rain load. Provide overflow protection for the roof. Reference: Sections 1101, 1106 and 1107, IPC 2006, and Section 1611.1, IBC 2006.]
05/07/2012 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Comment not resolved. Using the ventilation rate for an office is not appropriate for a factory area. The ventilation rate for an office is directly related to the number of people in the office but a factory area must consider not only the number of people in the area but also the materials and processes occurring in the area. Note that ASHRAE 62.1 references the handbook "Industrial ventilation - a Manual of Accepted Practice for Areas within Industrial Facilities" specifically because the abbreviated tables in the IMC and in ASHRAE 62.1 cannot anticipate all of the possible ventilation requirements. [Original comment: Provide details of the determination of the required ventilation rate for the shop areas, an occupancy not represented in Table 403.3, IMC 2006. Reference: Section 403.3, IMC 2006.]
2. Comment not resolved; it is unclear how blowing the exhaust down onto a roof surrounded by parapets from an unspecified height will prevent the contaminants from being drawn into a nearby air intake (e.g. the existing weather hoods) if the wind is blowing in the right direction. [Original comment: Clarify how the termination of the exhaust ducts for the adhesives complies with the requirements of Section 501.2, IMC 2006.]
3. Comment not addressed. Provide information to show that the design of the exhaust systems for the powder coating oven, the alodine process, the paint booths and the other production operations comply with the requirements of Sections 501.2, and 502, IMC 2006.
4. If the chemical storage room and the mixing room are separate structures being installed at a later date and under a separate permit, label them as such. If they are being installed under this permit, provide design drawings of the rooms and their contents, for review. [Original comment: Provide information to show that the storage and use quantities of hazardous materials do not exceed the allowable maximum amounts. Reference: Section 502.8.1, IMC 2006.]
