10/28/2010 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Water-free urinals are not Code-compliant fixtures per the UPC. Submit an appeal to the Building Official requesting approval to utilize a water-free urinal based on the International Plumbing Code. Reference: Sections 211.0 (insanitary), 301.2, 405.2, 409.0, 601.1, and 1005.0, UPC 2006.
2. Provide material standards for all plumbing fixtures being provided by others. All plumbing fixtures and fittings shall be listed or labeled by a nationally-recognized, accredited conformity assessment company (e.g. UL, ETL, NSF, UPC, etc). Reference: Sections 301.1.1 and 401.1, UPC 2006.
3. Show how the temperature of the hot water supply to the public lavatories is controlled. Note that the requirements of Section 504.3, IECC 2006 are more stringent with regard to temperature than Section 413.1, UPC 2006. Reference: Section 413.1, UPC 2006 and Section 504.3, IECC 2006.
4. The minimum residual water pressure is 15 PSI unless it can be shown that no specified fixtures or appliances require minimum residual pressures greater than 8 PSI. Note that some water closets and some appliances (e.g. dishwashers and clothes washers) require minimum residual pressures greater than 15 PSI. Reference: Section 608.1, UPC 2006.
5. Substitution of alternate piping materials (e.g. PEX instead of copper piping) will require a revision of the water pipe sizing calculations to match the revised piping materials. Reference: Sections 103.2.3 and 610.0, UPC 2006.
6. The maximum length of the horizontal section of a vent may not exceed one-third of the total allowable vent length noted in Table 7-5, UPC 2006.
7. Provide upper terminal cleanouts on horizontal drainage pipes exceeding 5 feet in length (see the Women's restroom and the drinking fountain). Reference: Section 707.4, UPC 2006.
8. The size of a wet vent shall be a minimum of one pipe size greater than that required for the drain of the upper fixture (urinals require a minimum waste pipe of 2"). Reference: Section 908.2, UPC 2006.
10/29/2010 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Clarify the basis of the ASHRAE 62-1-2004 ventilation calculations for zones 2, 3, and 4. The occupancy types (Table 6-1) being used for the break rooms and the VT are not clear. The information for zone 2 appears to be incomplete and the floor areas used in zone 4 appear to be low. Reference: Section 403.2, IMC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson.
2. Provide information on the sequence of operation for the restroom exhaust fans to show that all of the air supplied to the restrooms will be exhausted. Reference: Section 403.2.1 (4), IMC 2006.
3. Provide smoke detectors in the return air duct, upstream of any outside air connections, for all air distribution systems with a capacity greater than 2,000 CFM. Reference: Section 606.1, IMC 2006.
