05/03/2010 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Provide structural calculations to verify that the existing roof is capable of supporting the additional dead load due to the installation of the new roof top unit. Reference: Section 302.1, IMC 2006.
2. The occupant load used to calculate the required ventilation for a fast food restaurant is 100 people per 1000 square feet, not 70 people per 1000 square feet. The occupant load used for calculating the minimum required ventilation is to be based on Table 403.3, IMC 2006 or an approved engineering analysis of the specific occupancy type. Reference: Section 403.3, IMC 2006.
3. The minimum insulation for ducts located in indirectly conditioned spaces within the building envelope is R-4.2 (installed). Reference: Section 503.2.7, IECC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson.
4. Provide a Type II hood for the microwave oven and the microwave/convection oven. Reference: Section 507.2.2, IMC 2006.

05/04/2010 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. The applicable code for all commercial plumbing projects is the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code with Local Amendments. Provide an approved appeal to the building official if the plans are to be reviewed to the 2006 IPC.
2. Clarify the type of water closet to be used; tank-type water closets are scheduled but flush-valve water closets are shown on the architectural and plumbing floor plans. Reference: Section 103.2.3, UPC 2006.
3. Provide a floor drain in the kitchen. Reference: Sections 411.2.2 and 704.3, UPC 2006.
4. Appliances (e.g. ovens, coffee makers, ice makers, etc) to be directly connected to the water supply system that do not have listed, integral backflow preventers or integral air gaps conforming to Table 6-3, UPC 2006 require backflow prevention. Specify the type of backflow prevention device required for each water connection. Reference: Sections 602.3, 603.0, and Table 6-2, UPC 2006.
5. Each piece of equipment requiring backflow protection shall be independently protected. Reference: Sections 602.2 and 603.0, UPC 2006, as amended by the City of Tucson.
6. Provide a vacuum relief for the storage-type water heater located above fixture outlets. Reference: Section 608.7, UPC 2006.
7. Provide a direct waste connection for the wash and rinse sections of the 3-compartment sink, with an indirect connection for the sanitizing compartment only. Reference: Sections 304.0, 704.3, and 801.2.3, UPC 2006.
8. Provide a vent to protect the hydromechanical grease interceptor from siphonage and back-pressure. Reference: Sections 1002.1 and 1014.2.3, UPC 2006.
9. A vent is required for all fixtures discharging into a grease interceptor; the vent for the flow control device is not a vent to protect a trap. Reference: Sections 901.0 and 1014.1.2, UPC 2006.
10. No system vent shall be located between a flow control device and a hydromechanical grease interceptor. Reference: Section 1014.2.1, UPC 2006.
