The Electrical Plans have been denied for the following:

1. The 2005 NEC , Section 230.2 allows a building to be supplied by only one service, unless permitted by any of the conditions noted A thur E. The plan notes that 230.2 -C #1 is to be used "where load requirements of a single-phase installation are greater than the serving agency normally supplies through one service'.
2. The serving agency can provide up to a 600 amp service at 120/240 volt service which would adequately provide service. The argument that the one existing service does not provide sufficient service was not supported because a load for the existing service was not declared.
Also the existing service is underground fed, the new proposed service would be overhead. The City of Tucson has a requirement that all new services be underground unless an overhead service existed. City of Tucson DPSD policy also adheres to only allowing the services to a building to be either overhead or underground only not both, for safety reasons.

3/31/10 additional review.
NEC 2005,230.2 D, allowance for 2nd service under this section now requested. Additional services for different uses such as different rate schedules by Utility.
Teresa Marchbanks from TEP< (Designing Tech), has notified me that customer does not qualify for their Different rate schedule.
The situation remains, customer currently has an underground fed service, new additional service requested would be overhead, this departments policy is to require all new services ug, also denies for any building to have a combination of one OH and one UG, both must be the same.
