01/07/2008 | ROBERT SHERRY | MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Revise the submitted energy code compliance calculations to use the proper building location, Pima County < 4,000-ft. Provide manufacturer's data for the U-value and SHGC for the glass block. Reference Section 101.4, International Energy Conservation Code 2006. 2. The 2006 International Mechanical Code with local amendments is the relevant code for the mechanical portion of this project. Delete references to the IRC. 3. Show how the installation of the solar water heater complies with the guarding requirements of Section 304.10, IMC 2006. 4. Provide installation details and structural calculations to show how the solar water heater will be installed and that the installation will not adversely effect the building structure. Reference Sections 302.1 and 1402.4.1, IMC 2006. |
01/07/2008 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Comment not resolved, see the plumbing notes. The applicable code for this project is the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code with local amendments. 2. Polybutylene is not an approved material for water piping. Reference Table 6-4, UPC 2006. 3. The maximum hot water temperature for a public lavatory is 110 degrees Fahrenheit, not 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The hot limit stop feature for the specified faucet controls the mixing ratio of hot water to cold water but does not control the outlet temperature of the faucet. Considering the wide temperature range of cold water delivered by Tucson Water, explain how the temperature of the hot water supply to the public lavatory is to be limited to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Reference Section 413.1, UPC 2006 and Section 504.3, IECC 2006. 4. Show that the proposed water heater (WH2) is being applied per the manufacturer's recommendations with respect to capacity. The hot water demand for this building is 10 GPM but the stated capacity of the instantaneous water heater is only 4 GPM. Reference Sections 501.0 and 610.1, UPC 2006. 5. Provide upper terminal cleanouts on horizontal drainage pipes exceeding 5 feet in length (horizontal drain lines serving sinks require cleanouts regardless of length). Reference Section 707.4, UPC 2006. 6. The water pressure to the project location is in excess of 80 PSI. Show the location of the pressure reducing valve on the drawing. (Note that a pressure reducing valve is not the same as a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer.) Reference Section 608.2, UPC 2006. 7. The provided scupper sizing information is incorrect. The required roof drain is supposed to be 2" in diameter per Table 11-1 but the sizing of a scupper shall be per Section 1101.11.2.1, UPC 2006. As such, a scupper to replace a 2" diameter roof drain needs to be at least 4" high and 6.5" wide (width equal to the circumference of the required roof drain). In addition, the bottom of an overflow scupper must be no higher than 2" above the low point of the roof unless the roof is designed to accommodate the additional weight of the rainwater. Reference Section 1101.11, UPC 2006 and Section 1611, IBC 2006. 8. Provide a vacuum relief for water heater WH1 (a storage-type water heater located above fixture outlets). Reference Section 608.7, UPC 2006 and Section 1402.5.2, IMC 2006. 9. Show how water heater WH1 and drinking fountain P10 are to be protected from freezing. Reference Section 313.6, UPC 2006 and 1402.5.3, IMC 2006. 10. Provide the size and rating of the temperature relief valve for water heater WH1. Show the size, route, and termination of the T&P relief pipe from the water heater. Reference Section 608.5, UPC 2006 and Section 1402.5.1, IMC 2006. 11. Provide an expansion tank or other approved device for controlling thermal expansion for water heater WH1. Reference Section 608.3, UPC 2006 and Section 1402.5.4, IMC 2006. 12. The submitted water pressure calculations do not support the size of water piping. Limit the water velocity to less than 8 fps for the copper piping. Reference Section A 6.1, UPC 2006; IAPMO IS 3-2000, and Sections 610.0 and 610.1, UPC 2006. |

01/22/2008 | GERRY KOZIOL | WWM | REVIEW | Approved | |
01/22/2008 | LINDA BUCZYNSKI | ELECTRICAL-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | TRANSMIT ORIGINAL DRAWINGS WITH NEXT SUBMITTAL. PLEASE CALL AT 791-5550 X1106 OR EMAIL AT Linda.Buczynski@tucsonaz.gov IF YOU CARE TO DISCUSS. 1. There is a 2-pole circuit breaker in only one space on the panel schedule, for both heat pumps, which from the newly submitted cut sheets take phase-to-phase power. Note that several of the single pole circuits on this panel also have the "20/2" or the "15/2" designation even though they would be 120V, or single pole, circuits. 2. Tankless Water Heater Schedule calls for a 120V WH. Electrical provides 240V power. Please clarify. THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE FIRST SUBMITTAL. NOW THE "120V" READS "120A", WHICH BELIES THE 6900W DRAWN BY THE EQUIPMENT. CLARIFY THIS, AND PROPER VOLTAGE LEVELS, AND COORDINATE WITH CIRCUITING ON ELECTRICAL. 3. Remove references to IRC, and design per NEC 2005. THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE FIRST SUBMITTAL. REMOVE IRC REFERENCE FROM ELECTRIC RISER DIAGRAM. 4. Revised Electrical Calculation still do not reflect the true sum, which is 27,609 VA, not 17,609. Please correct amperage draw as well. 5. Revised Electrical Calculation counts 2800W for the Water Heater. This unit is specified at 6900W on Sheet M2.0. Please clarify. 6. Show TEP transformer location. Only if cable length is over 45' is 10,000A Available Fault Current valid. THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE FIRST SUBMITTAL. SINCE CABLE LENGTH IS LESS THAN 45', PLEASE MAKE A NOTE ON THE PLANS TO THE EFFECT THAT THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE ARCHITECT WITH THE TEP AVAILABLE FAULT CURRENT. 7. Outdoor Lighting Calculations account for a 60W fixture. Luminaire Schedule and cut sheet call for a 120W fixture. Please clarify, and correct the Calculations as necessary. 8. If lighting fixture accepts a bulb greater than 100W, it needs to be demonstrated that its minimum efficacy is 60 lumens per watt. 9. Cut sheet for the outdoor heat pump unit calls for a 20A fuse. Please provide this in the disconnects. |
01/29/2008 | HEATHER THRALL | ZONING | REVIEW | Denied | The building plans cannot be approved by zoning due to what appears to be a setback issue based upon a wall height for the residence that is greater than 8'10" from grade. The building must be setback equal to the wall height at the west property line. The building setback provided on the site plan is 8'10", whereas, the building plans show a wall height from grade to where the wall meets the eave at 9'6" per scale of the drawing. please lower the wall height. |
