07/08/2008 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Given the temperature range of the water supply in Tucson (from 40 degrees to as high as 90.3 degrees Fahrenheit), specify how the temperature limit stop on the lavatory faucets is to be seasonally adjusted to guarantee a maximum delivery temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Reference: Section 413.1, UPC 2006 and Section 504.3, IECC 2006
2. Comment not resolved. The 2-way cleanouts, shown in Detail 3/P100, are in violation of Section 707.6, UPC 2006. The "two-way cleanout fitting" noted in Section 707.4, exception 4, is a single, approved fitting; not a field assembly of fittings.
3. Comment not resolved. Provide upper terminal cleanouts on horizontal drainage pipes exceeding 5 feet in length (horizontal drain lines serving sinks require cleanouts regardless of length). The location of the cleanouts shall be shown on the drawings. Reference: Section 707.4, UPC 2006
4. Coordinate the grocery waste and vent riser diagrams (1 & 2/P701) with the plumbing floor plans.
5. .The cross-sectional area of each vent for a combination waste and vent system shall be at least one-half of the cross-sectional area of the pipe being vented. Reference: Section 910.3, UPC 2006.
6. Each waste pipe in a combination waste and vent system shall be at least two pipe-sizes larger than the tailpiece of the connecting fixture. Reference: Section 910.4, UPC 2006
7. Provide an accessible cleanout in each vent of a combination waste and vent system. Reference: Section 910.6, UPC 2006.
07/14/2008 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. The City of Tucson amendments to the International Mechanical Code (2006 edition) allow the use of the ventilation rate procedure (section 6.2) of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2004 as an alternative method for calculating the required minimum ventilation for a building. The indoor air quality procedure (section 6.3) has not been adopted and thus must be treated as an alternative method per Section 105.2, IMC 2006. Submit an appeal to the building official along with additional documentation that shows that the proposed method results in a design that is at least equivalent in quality and safety to the prescribed methods of determining the minimum amount of ventilation air. Reference: Section 401.2, IMC 2006.
2. Based on details 2/A405 and 8/A311, the smooth, cleanable, non-absorbent surface does not extend at least 18" beyond the hoods. Hood CH-1 is 15'-4" wide and has a 15'-4" wide stainless steel wall covering; similarly, hood CH-3 is 6'-0" wide and has a 6'-0" stainless steel wall covering behind it. Show that the hood installation complies with Section 507.9, IMC 2006 for clearances (i.e. a smooth, cleanable, non-absorbent surface shall extend at least 18" beyond the hoods in all directions).

IF YOU CARE TO DISCUSS.

1. Sheet E111. Demonstrate compliance with the Tucson Lighting Code http://www.tucsonaz.gov/dsd/Codes___Ordinances/Tucson_Lighting_Code.pdf. for exterior fixtures, this permit. Response to previous comment implies that lumen caps have been established for fixtures, which is not the case. Please see Section 5 and 8. Lumen counts are established for an entire site. However, any full cutoff fixtures installed under canopies or overhangs do not add to this count per 5.1.2. Any full cutoff fixtures need to be clearly specified as such or be obvious to the Plans Examiner from the cut sheets.
2. Revise the font size used on the drawings to a minimum of 3/32-inch (all upper case). Reference Section 106.1.1, IBC 2006. For example the Light Fixture Schedule is 1/16".
3. Sheet E221. RTU-15 takes 30A fuse, maximum, per Mechanical Plans. Specify such on this sheet. Typical. PREVIOUS COMMENT. When the manufacturer specifies a fuse, then a fuse shall be used to satisfy the requirements for MOPD. Mechanical schedule sheet has not changed from this designation. And this may be a mechanical typo, because the same schedule calls for circuit breakers factory installed.
4. Sheet E601. Values for electrical requirements for VAVs used on this sheet are different from those on the Mechanical Schedule. Please clarify. PREVIOUS COMMENT. Please recheck this. For example, VAV-4-2 is 4.0 KW on the Mechanical Schedule and 2.5 kW on Sheet E601, and VAV-4-3 is 277V 1-phase on the Mechanical Schedule and 480V 3-phase on Sheet E601.
5. Sheet E621, E622, E623. Panel schedules and distribution panels have been reviewed at revised font size. Demonstrate that LD-1 is not overloaded, on a phase-by-phase basis.
6. Sheet E611. Load Summary, and load calculations for distribution panels, to be reviewed after panel schedule review per comment above.
7. Sheet E611. The #6 conductor in the conduit on the secondary of Transformer TE-1, sized per NEC Table 250.66, should be #4.
8. Sheet E611. Conduit 11 takes a #2Cu Ground. Cond., not a #4. Reference NEC 250.122 (F) (1).
9. Sheet E611. Specify how many poles the Transfer Switches are to have. Reference NEC 250.30.
10. Tucson Electric Power Company published Available Fault Current for a 3000A capacity 277/480V 3-phase service is 52,400A, per SR-510 Pg. 1 of 1, for the case of a single serving transformer. If there are only 45,744A available at the end of the utility cable run, please document any and all supporting information.
