| 04/05/2006 | ROBERT SHERRY | PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL | REVIEW | Denied | 1. Second request. Provide site drawing showing the size and route of the building water supply along with the location and size of both the water meter and the reduced pressure backflow preventer assembly. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 2. The submitted pipe-sizing schedule (sheet P-3.2) calls for a maximum pressure drop of 3 PSI per 100 feet with types K and L copper. The maximum flow rates called out on the schedule, however, will result in pressure drops significantly in excess of 3 PSI/100 feet even for the type L copper. Correct the pipe-sizing schedule as required. 3. Provide listing information for the reduced pressure backflow preventer upon which the water pressure calculations have been based. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 4. One of the specified fixtures (Haws model 7360BT emergency eyewash) requires a minimum pressure greater than the 15-PSI used in the water pipe sizing calculations. Revise calculations as necessary. Reference Section 608.1, UPC 1994. 5. Second request. Coordinate the plumbing fixture layout (sheet P-2.0) with the fixtures shown on sheet A-2.1. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994.The fixture layout in room 106 is not the same on both sheets. The architect calls out an "emergency drench shower/eyewash" but the plumbing design specifies only an eyewash. The architect shows a utility sink in room 143 but the plumbing design does not show this sink. The architect also shows a floor drain in room 142 but the plumbing design does not show this fixture. 6. Second request. Provide site drawing showing the size, route, and slope of the building sewer. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 7. Based on the provided waste and vent isometric, upper terminal cleanouts are required (Section 707.4, UPC 1994), each fixture requires a vent (Sections 901.0 and 910.1, UPC 1994) and, the emergency eyewash (emergency shower?) is not connected to the building drain system (Section 304.0, UPC 1994). Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 8. Second request. Provide a schedule of waste fixture units for all plumbing fixtures using the values shown in table 7-3, UPC 1994. Include the total number of each fixture being installed. Reference Section 703.1, UPC 1994. (Note: the domestic water connected load tabulation shown on sheet P-1 is incomplete and does not use fixture units from the 1994 UPC.) 9. The trench drain located in the service bay still shows a trap at the trench discharge (sheet P2.0, detail D4/P-3.0, and the DWV isometric on sheet P-3.2). This trap would not be self-cleaning (Section 1003.1, UPC 1994) and would prevent sand from reaching the intended interceptor. The drain piping from the trench drain located in the service reception has inadequate cleanouts (approximately 170 feet between cleanouts). The pipes running between the trench drains and the sand/oil separator are essentially closed troughs for slurry flow and should be designed accordingly to prevent drainage problems. The trap shown in detail D27/P-3.1is not required because the interceptor forms the trap. 10. Provide the listing information for the 2-way cleanouts located before and after the sand/oil separator. Reference Section 707.6, UPC 1994. 11. If the size of the natural gas piping was determined using Table 12-3, UPC 1994, the branches to HV-1, HV-2, and RTU-1 are undersized; the pipe segment from the first floor to the second floor is undersized (780+480=1260, not 1160); and the main piping shown as 3-1/2" should be 4". If Table 12-3 was not used to size the gas piping, provide calculations to show that the pipe sizes are correct. 12. Second request. Show the location of the gas meter along with the developed length from the meter to the building. If the Contractor decides to use medium pressure gas, a revision to the plans and the permit will be required. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 13. Second request. Provide a design for the drainage of the roof located north of column line 7. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 14. Second request. Clarify the design of the roof drain for the entry element shown on sheet A-15.1. Reference Section 103.2.3, UPC 1994. 15. Revise detail D17/P-3.1 to comply with Section 313.3, UPC 1994. 16. Revise detail D23/P-3.1 to include backflow protection. If the beverage dispenser includes carbonated water, a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer and no copper downstream of the backflow assembly will be required. Reference Sections 602.4 and 603.3.12, UPC 1994. 17. Show how the temperature of the hot water supply to the public lavatories is controlled. Reference Section 414.1, UPC 2003 and Section 804.3, IECC 2003. 18. Show how the temperature of the hot water supply to the public lavatories is controlled. Reference Section 804.3, IECC 2003. 19. Provide listing information for the shower for room 142. Show how the unit complies with Sections 410.3, 410.4, and 410.7, UPC 1994. |
