11/20/2005 ROBERT SHERRY PLUMBING-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. According to Tucson Water, the pressure range for the project location ranges from 47 to 54 PSI before the meter and reduced pressure backflow preventer. Include the pressure drops for the water meter and the reduced pressure backflow preventer in your calculations. Calculate the water demand using the fixture units shown in Tables 6-3 or A-2. Limit the water velocity in copper pipe to no more than 8 feet per second. Provide a cut sheet that shows a pressure drop of 3 PSI for the specified reduced pressure backflow preventer. Coordinate sheet SU-1 and the City of Tucson Water Distribution System drawing in the project drawing set. Reference Sections 103.3.3, 610.3, and Appendix A, UPC 1994 and IAPMO IS 3-93.
2. Comment not addressed. The sizing information provided for the thermal expansion tank does not correspond to the situation depicted in the drawings. The Watts Regulator chart for the DET Series expansion tanks does not accommodate two 120-gallon water heaters and is designed for only a 50-degree Fahrenheit temperature rise. Note also that detail 6/P-5 shows that the expansion tank is correctly installed for only one of the two water heaters. An expansion tank must be located downstream of any shut-off valves or check valves. Reference Section 608.3, UPC 1994 with AZ State amendments.
3. Provide a shut-off valve on the cold water supply pipe to each water heater. Reference Section 605.3, UPC 1994.
11/29/2005 ROBERT SHERRY MECHANICAL-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied 1. Section 403.3.2 allows "the RATIO of outdoor air to total supply air for the system to be determined based on the space having the largest outdoor air requirement…". For example, if the beauty shop served by AHU-1 requires 36% outside air then AHU-1 can be set to deliver 36% outside air to all of the spaces it serves. Reference Sections 403.3 and 403.3.2, IMC 2000.
2. The Community room appears to be an assembly room, not a lobby. Adjust the ventilation requirements accordingly. Note that the mechanical plan shows AHU-3 delivering only 1820 CFM, not 2000 CFM. Reference Section 403.3, IMC 2000.
3. The Seating rooms (approximately 470 square feet) appear to be a lobby with a corridor (120 square feet) running through it. The reception room appears to function as an office. Adjust the ventilation requirements accordingly. Note that the mechanical plan shows AHU-1B delivering only 1040 CFM, not 1020 CFM. Reference Section 403.3, IMC 2000.
4. Include information for AHU-1C on the Air Unit Schedule. Reference Section 106.3.1, IMC 2000.
5. Show how the condensate from the independent air conditioning systems for the elevator machine rooms is handled. Reference Section 307.2, IMC 2003.
6. Provide power for the fire/smoke dampers. Reference Section 607.2, IMC 2000.

IF YOU CARE TO DISCUSS.

1. "Minimum font size is 1/8". Enlarge as necessary." THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE PREVIOUS SUBMITTAL.
2. Assign Revision Numbers to plan revisions. Arizona State Law requires that the revision to a plan sealed by a Registrant have its nature and date indicated.
3. Provide a separate branch circuit for the Elevator Equipment Room lighting and receptacles. Reference NEC 620.23 (A). This was done for one elevator but not for the other. In Elevator Equipment Room 129, please add the lighting fixture to Ckt L2-31.
4. "All 3 phases of Panel P1, Section 2, exceed its 225A capacity." THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE PREVIOUS SUBMITTAL. Show exact feeder calculations which demonstrate the use of load diversity referenced in the Response to Comment.
5. "Phase B of Panel C1 exceeds its 225A capacity." THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE PREVIOUS SUBMITTAL. Show exact feeder calculations which demonstrate the use of load diversity referenced in the Response to Comment.
6. "Please explain demand factors used in panel load calculations, which also transfer to Electrical Load Summary." THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE PREVIOUS SUBMITTAL. Show exact feeder calculations which demonstrate the use of load diversity referenced in the Response to Comment. We do not accept that corridor, laundry, office, and kitchen lighting will never operate when the outside lights are on.
7. On Electrical Load Summary, show calculations which arrive at the quantities in the Diversified Load Column.
8. Connected loads on Panel MDP do not correspond to those on Panels C1 and P1 Section 1.
9. "Conduit and conductor specifications on Electrical Load Summary are not consistent with those on the Electrical Riser Diagram, and a third instruction is specified on the First Floor Electrical Power Plan." THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE PREVIOUS SUBMITTAL. On Electrical Load Calculations Meter Center #3 feeder is 4/0; on Electrical Load Summary same sheet the feeder is 250KCM. Please correct this instance and all others which may apply.
10. For the purpose of the Meter Bank Feeder calculations, it appears that the appropriate load to satisfy 220.32 (c) (5) is 6800 VA for the AHU on Ckt 10,12. Apartment unit panel schedules both still include this load. Please clarify.
11. Please clarify Service Entrance Conductor size on the Electrical Riser Diagram as 43500KCM. Do you mean 4-500KCM?
12. Size the Main Bonding Jumper at the service entrance on the basis of the total cross-sectional area of the service entrance conductors. Reference NEC 250.102 (C).
13. On Electric Load Summary, provide service calculations.
14. On Electric Load Summary, clarify the meaning of Building Feeder Total. Do you mean Service? Clarify the origin of the figure 763,211.
15. On Electric Load Summary, clarify the intent of the calculation for building feeder ampacity. Clarify the origin of the figure 397992.
16. Please clarify why MDP is MLO on its panel schedule, when the MDP Section on the Electrical Riser Diagram has a Main.
17. Please clarify the 600A Main #3 in series with the 1200A Main #4, and why Main #3 is indicated twice at this location.
18. "Contact Tucson Electric Power Company for the available fault current at the service transformer." THIS COMMENT WAS MADE ON THE PREVIOUS SUBMITTAL. Considering the published data in TEP's SR-510 of its 2005 Electrical Service Requirements for 120/208V 1200A or greater has 75,100A of AFC, it is difficult to accept a starting figure of 55,000A, as the Response has indicated. Indeed, TEP publishes 55,600A as the AFC for 120/208V services in the 600-1000A range.
19. From the plotted location of the TEP transformer on the scaled Power Plan, 75' appears to be too long for the secondary power. Please verify this distance and all others which pertain to the fault calculations. Add fault calculations for panel in Manager's Apartment. Fault calculations will be checked by Electrical Plans Examiner after the above has been performed, and after the AFC from the serving utility has been clarified according to the comment above.
20. Provide catalogue cut sheet for fixture L. It will be evaluated for compliance with the Lighting Ordinance 8210 Exhibit A.
21. On Sheet E-7, the grounding of the telephone system, reference NEC 800.40 (B) (1), has specified one of the options as the connection to a 5/8" X 8' ground rod. Since Note 3 on the Electrical Riser Diagram Sheet E-9 specifies a 10' ground rod, and since 800.40 (B) (1) #1 specifies the building or structure grounding electrode system, it needs to be clarified that only those options listed in 800.40 (B) are used.
22. The modification of Lighting Fixture SL is not clear, since it is not used on this project. If site lighting consisting of fixtures mounted on 30' poles is intended, please add this work to the electrical design. Provide a detail for the pole and foundation, and for any pole exceeding 20' in height, it is necessary to submit calculations for the pole and foundation, sealed by a Registered Structural Engineer.
